American Composers Orchestra Announces 2017-2018 Emerging Composers

American Composers Orchestra continues its commitment to the creation and development of new orchestral music with the announcement of sixteen emerging composers who will participate in its catalytic programs. Six emerging composers will participate in the 27th Annual Underwood New Music Readings on June 21-22, 2018 at a location to be announced. Ten emerging composers receive 2018 EarShot New Music Readings presented by Fort Wayne Philharmonic (February 7, 2018), Charlotte Symphony Orchestra (March 1, 2018), and Jacksonville Symphony (April 20, 2018). EarShot is a partnership between American Composers Orchestra, League of American Orchestras, American Composers Forum, and New Music USA.

Music of Hildegard to be Performed at National Cathedral

Folger Consort, the early music ensemble in residence at the Folger Shakespeare Library, performs two concerts of A Branch of Freshest Green: Music of Hildegard von Bingen, Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3, 2018 in the Gothic nave of Washington National Cathedral. Celebrating the legacy of Hildegard von Bingen, the program intersperses works by the great 12th-century visionary and composer with works by contemporary female composers arranged for medieval instruments and voices. Folger Consort artistic co-directors Robert Eisenstein and Christopher Kendall will be joined by the all-female vocal ensemble, Trio Eos, and multi-instrumentalists Shira Kammen and Christa Patton.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) announces its complete 2017-2018 season, Dreamscapes, under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel, Music Director George Manahan, and President Edward Yim, featuring ten world, U.S., and New York premieres by a diverse set of composers. ACO continues its concerts at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall (December 8, 2017 and April 6, 2018) while expanding its presence in New York to include performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center (November 7, 2017) and as part of the 2018 PROTOTYPE Festival (January 12-14, 2018). ACO continues to take its commitment to fostering new work beyond the stage in its annual Underwood New Music Readings (June 21 and 22, 2018) for emerging composers, now in its 27th year, and through EarShot, the National Orchestra Composition Discovery Network, which brings the Readings experience to orchestras across the country.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) and WWFM The Classical Network announce The ACO Experience, a new radio program hosted by Diane Guvenis that features live recordings of music by today's most talented and exciting composers. All works are performed by the American Composers Orchestra or by guest artists and ensembles participating in ACO concerts and ACO's 2011 and 2015 SONiC: Sounds of a New Century, nine-day citywide festivals in New York, each featuring music by more than 100 composers age 40 and under.
