The Apollo Theater today announced that it will bring to its iconic stage two new performances that continue its commitment to articulating and projecting the African American narrative through arts and culture.  In October 2018, The Apollo will celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud," the Godfather of Soul James Brown's seminal Black Power anthem, with the premiere of Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud at 50 under the musical direction of six-time GRAMMY®- Award-winner Christian McBride.  In May of 2019, in a co-production between The Apollo, Baltimore Center Stage, and Mosaic Theater, Kelvin Roston Jr. will pay homage to Donny Hathaway in the New York premiere of the one man play Twisted Melodies.  Tickets for both productions will go on sale July 1st.

True Colors Theatre Company (Kenny Leon, Co-Founding Artistic Director) and Jujamcyn Theaters (Jordan Roth, President) are proud to announce the winners of the 10th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition that was held last night, on Monday, May 7th at 7:00 p.m. at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). In first place, Gerardo Navarro from Los Angeles, in second place, Nia Sarfo from Chicago, and third place went to Teslyne Junior from New York City.

Center Theatre Group's regional finalist Gerardo Navarro took first place in the August WilsonMonologue Competition (AWMC) National Finals held at the August Wilson Theatre on Broadway last night, May 7, 2018. Representing Los Angeles and the Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts, Navarro performed a monologue from 'King Hedley II,' which earned him a $1,500 scholarship and a $3,000 cash prize.

The final presentation of the recently expanded Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge, took place just last night. This year's Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge finalists included Eliza Corrington & Braxton Gerald Carr, Tucker Donelan, Jillian Guetersloh, Fritz Hager, Aaron Richert, and David Volpini. The 2018-19 Signature Theatre Season will feature six works by five resident playwrights, including two productions by Signature's new Residency 1 playwright, Lynn Nottage, and a world premiere musical from Signature's first musical theatre writer-in-residence Dave Malloy, the company announced today.

As Black Panther continues to land rapturous praise and smash box office records in its opening days, the Apollo Theater in collaboration with The Atlantic will present a discussion about the film with its star Chadwick Boseman in conversation with The Atlantic's national correspondent and author Ta-Nehisi Coates. The event will take place on Tuesday, February 27 at 7:30PM EST at the Apollo.

Amphibian Stage Productions is proud to host internationally-renowned artist Laura Anderson Barbata as she develops her one-woman play, The Eye of the Beholder. Performances will be Friday, March 23rd, and Saturday, March 24th at 8:00 pm.

A new work by Arizona State University School of Music Professor of Practice Daniel Bernard Roumain is re-shaping what the world thought Opera could be. The critically acclaimed work titled 'We Shall Not Be Moved' is a 'rare piece in the operatic world a multi-disciplinary work created by artists of color that addresses race relations in America...' according to Lynne MacDonald, a communications specialist at the School of Music.
