BWW Interview: Jeffrey Kahane - Venturing Out Into What Matters with LOST IN THE STARS

Not since 1950 have audiences in L.A. been able to see a live professional performance of Kurt Weill's musical masterpiece LOST IN THE STARS. That changes this month when the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, led by Music Director Jeffrey Kahane, presents a brand new production in partnership with CAP UCLA. Set during the era of South African apartheid, the devastating tale of a black minister whose son accidentally kills a white neighbor's son explores racial inequalities and the courage it takes to forgive when faced with an impossible moral dilemma.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Presents LOST IN THE STARS, 1/28

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, in partnership with CAP UCLA, presents the first Los Angeles performance since the 1950s of LOST IN THE STARS Kurt Weill's powerful, uncompromising social indictment of apartheid-era South Africa, on Saturday, January 28, 8 pm, and Sunday, January 29, 2017, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall. 

NYChoral Rings in the Holiday Season At Alice Tully Hall 12/21

The New York Choral Society (NYChoral) under the direction of its music director David Hayes will ring in the holiday season with a Christmas concert at Alice Tully Hall on Wednesday evening, December 21st, at 7:30 p.m. The program, featuring soloists Frederick Ballentine and Justin Hopkins, will present works by two musical giants of 20th Century American choral music, Robert Shaw, whose 100th birthday would have been this year, and Robert De Cormier, NYChoral Music Director Emeritus, who was awarded the 2016 Michael Korn Founders Award by Chorus America for his lifetime contribution to the choral arts. The concert will also include works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Elizabeth Poston, and James MacMillan, and will end with an audience sing-along of beloved Christmas carols. Soundstreams Presents MUSIC OF THE RAINBOW NATION

Soundstreams continues its 34th season with Music of the Rainbow Nation. The evening explores Canadian and South African cultural identity featuring celebrated actors Kim Sanssoucie and Batsile Ramasodi, Juno award-winning vocalist Lorraine Klassen, The Rainbow Chorus, rising opera-star Justin Hopkins, and a brilliant percussion ensemble led by Ryan Scott.

The Boston Pops has been winning the affection of audiences in Boston and beyond for 131 seasons with programs like The Golden Age of Broadway and featured performers Marin Mazzie, Jason Danieley, Laura Osnes, and Justin Hopkins. Keith Lockhart was on the podium and Lidiya Yankovskaya was Guest Chorus Conductor with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

Philly POPS Sets New Memorial Day Concert

?The Philly POPS announced its summer line-up today: A new Memorial Day concert at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts will honor veterans and the military and the annual free Independence Day Weekend show will entertain tens of thousands of Philadelphians and visitors.

The New School's College of Performing Arts Sets Winter, Spring Programming

The New School's newly formed College of Performing Arts, led by"firebrand" (New York Times) Executive Dean Richard Kessler, is pleased to announce winter-spring public programming highlights for the College's three schools: Mannes School of Music, The School of Jazz and The School of Drama. Performances will take place at the College's new performing arts hub-designed by Deborah Berke Partners at Arnhold Hall (55 West 13th Street)-as well as at The New School's Tishman Auditorium at University Center (63 Fifth Avenue), The Theater at the School of Drama (151 Bank Street) and venues throughout the city. Collegiate Chorale's Spring 2015 Benefit Raises More Than $300,000

The Collegiate Chorale raised more than $300,000 at its annual Spring Benefit featuring the U.S. premiere of Kurt Weill and Franz Werfel's The Road of Promise at Carnegie Hall on May 7, 2015. Proceeds will go toward The Chorale's artistic and education initiatives.
