On Sunday, June 17, from noon until midnight, Bang on a Can continues celebrating its 25th year with the annual Bang on a Can Marathon, free for the public at World Financial Center Winter Garden (220 Vesey Street, NYC), presented by River To River® Festival, Arts Brookfield, and Bang on a Can.
Tonight, May 14th, The Flea Theater will once again open its doors to the most skilled and inventive composers from around the world. For two weeks, 27 of these maestros will unite in welcoming you to their playground to experience first-hand new and experimental contemporary alternative classical music performances that take place at The Flea's FREE spring festival: Music With A View 2012.

May 21 & 22 Roulette presents Eclipse Quartet. Described as 'an all-female, musical powerhouse comprised of award winning musicians, Eclipse Quartet will present two fascinating evenings of programming featuring the New York premiere of Roscoe Mitchell's 9/9/99 version II, Morton Feldman's epic Piano and String Quartet, 1985 (featuring guest pianist Vicki Ray), String Quartet 1931 by Ruth Crawford Seeger, Amazing Grace by Ben Johnston and, the New York premiere of Sean Heim's No Quartet. The fearless repertoire encompasses a wide spectrum of styles, the first night a courageous journey of color and minimalism as the quartet share the stage with pianist Vicki Ray, one of the leading interpreters of contemporary piano music, to perform one of Feldmans last, intense and meditative pieces, and the second night diving deeply into the surreal and improvisational world of iconic musician and composer Roscoe Mitchell.'
Bang on a Can takes over Alice Tully Hall presented by Lincoln Center's Great Performers series in a triple-bill birthday bash tonight, April 28 at 7pm featuring the Bang on a Can All-Stars, Asphalt Orchestra, and MIT's Gamelan Galak Tika. Bang on a Can is celebrating 25 years during 2012, having grown from a one-day New York-based Marathon concert (on Mother's Day in 1987 in a SoHo art gallery) to a multi-faceted performing arts organization with a broad range of year-round international activities.
Performing works by Inhyun Kim, Ashley Fu-Tsun Wang, Marco Stroppa, Kurtag, Messaien, Ligeti, Debussy, and Schumann, pianist Jenny Q. Chai makes her Carnegie Hall debut at Zankel Hall on Thursday, April 19 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $30 ($15 for students) and will be available beginning February 19th at www.carnegiehall.org, at the Carnegie Hall Box office at 57th street and 7th avenue in New York City (which is also the location of the venue), or by calling 212 247 7800.

The album, Big Beautiful Dark and Scary, is also the first to include the All-Stars' current line-up: Ashley Bathgate, cello; Robert Black, bass; Vicky Chow, piano; David Cossin, percussion; Mark Stewart, electric guitar; and Evan Ziporyn, clarinets. In celebration of its 25th birthday, Bang on a Can is giving a very special gift to the public. The complete, double album is available to download for free during the first 25 days of January (through January 25) from www.bangonacan25.org. In exchange, listeners need only share a memory, thought, or story of Bang on a Can from the last 25 years, to be displayed online.
