Artists at Play presents the Los Angeles premiere of 99 Histories, a poignant drama that explores how a family history of mental illness - and the fear and silence that surrounded the disease - affects the relationship between a Korean immigrant mother and her American-born daughter.

Artists at Play presents the Los Angeles premiere of 99 Histories, a poignant drama exploring the themes of family, generational and cultural differences, and history through the relationship between a Korean immigrant mother and her American-born daughter. Opening September 13, 2014, the play is written by Julia Cho, and directed by Leslie Ishii.

Leigh Silverman, Mark Brokaw, Juliette Carillo & More Set for Sundance Institute's Theatre Directors Retreat in France

Sundance Institute and the LUMA Foundation today announced that the two organizations will again collaborate to host the second Sundance Institute | LUMA Foundation Theatre Directors Retreat in Arles, France, July 29 through August 11. The Retreat is one of 10 residential programs hosted by Sundance Institute this summer, collectively representing 15 weeks of support and mentorship for promising independent artists in theatre and film from the United States and around the world.

American Blues Theater Hosts Benefit Performance of Multi-Award Winning GROUNDED, 6/21

Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, are proud to announce the Saturday, June 21 performance of Grounded, by George Brant and directed by Lisa Portes, at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. is a benefit performance for Children of War Foundation. Proceeds from the performance will go directly to surgery and medical treatment for Shah Bibi Tarakhail, an Afghan Child Affected by War. The running time is approximately 80 minutes. Grounded runs through July 13. Jedadiah Schultz directs RAGGED CLAWS, and the Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang serves as Ms. Patel's Mentor Playwright.

American Conservatory Theater Names Beatrice Basso as Director of New Work

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Artistic Director Carey Perloff announced today that Beatrice Basso has been named as A.C.T.'s first Director of New Work. Furthering A.C.T.'s mission to provide innovative programming that enriches, educates, and engages with the community, Basso-in her new role-will focus on new work development, season planning, and the commissioning process for all of A.C.T.'s performance spaces: The Geary Theater, The Costume Shop Theater and the soon-to-be-opened Strand Theater.

MARABELLA, SHE KILLS MONSTERS and More Set for Artists at Play Readings, 4/6

As part of Artists at Play's mission to present stories of underrepresented communities, they will develop and showcase two new works to the L.A. theatre community. This upcoming event features readings of Marabella by local playwright Boni B. Alvarez, whose Dallas Non-Stop was recently Ovation Recommended; and Qui Nguyen's She Kills Monsters, named one of the Best 10 Plays of 2013 (TimeOut Chicago, Edge Boston).
