Bay Street Theater has announced the three productions planned for the 2017 Mainstage Summer Season.

Second Stage Theatre's New York Premiere production of NOTES FROM THE FIELD: DOING TIME IN EDUCATION, the latest work created, written and performed by groundbreaking theatre artist Anna Deavere Smith with music composed and performed by Marcus Shelby and directed by Leonard Foglia, opens tonight, November 2, 2016 at the Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd Street).

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director, Casey Reitz, Executive Director) has announced that Tony Award winner Reed Birney (The Humans) will star in the leading role of Ken Carpenter in the upcoming New York premiere production of Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Tracy Lett's 2003 play, MAN FROM NEBRASKA, directed by David Cromer. Mr. Birney has previously appeared in three Second Stage productions - The Family of Mann, Loose Knit, and Winterplay.

THE TOTALITARIANS is a new play by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb that had its world premiere in 2014. It is a satirical comedy that takes a behind the scenes look at modern politics and how a speech writer can make or break someone running for public office. Although the play is about a woman running for Attorney General in Nebraska, the play shines a bright light on the current political campaign here in America examining just how easy it is to sway the populace with unsubstantiated facts and catchy slogans. It also happens to be one of the sharpest satires since the days of Jules Feiffer.

As previously announced, Maria Dizzia assumes the role of Shellie in the world premiere production of THE LAYOVER, written by Leslye Headland and directed by Trip Cullman, today, September 6. She returns to Second Stage Theatre after her acclaimed performance in the title role of Eurydice, during the company's 28th season.

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts announces the success of the 25th Annual Summer Gala, celebrating Bay Street's Silver Anniversary, which took place in Sag Harbor on the Long Wharf on July 9, 2016 to benefit Bay Street's theatrical, educational and community programs. The evening included a special performance of scenes from productions from the past 25 years directed by Will Pomerantz, as well as a silent auction, cocktail party, Live 'Fantasy Auction,' dinner and dancing. Artistic Director, Scott Schwartz also announced a new partnership with Jeffrey Seller, producer of Hamilton.
