The president and CEO of the All Stars Project, Gabrielle L. Kurlander, announced the appointment of Dan Friedman, Ph.D. as the artistic director of the Castillo Theatre on Sunday, April 4. Friedman was preceded in this position by Fred Newman, who held it from 1989 through 2005, when he retired; Newman remains artistic director emeritus.
The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation, the organization dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, is pleased to announce that Ben Hodges (editor, Theater World) and Abby Marcus (managing director, Vampire Cowboys) are the new co-chairs of the Honorary Award committee, filling the vacancy left by Leonard Jacobs (Clyde Fitch Report). Forty-one years after The Living Theatre's now legendary performance of Paradise Now at Yale Repertory Theatre in September 1968, which ended in the arrest of ten performers and audience members for public indecency, co-founder and Artistic Director Judith Malina returns to New Haven for a two-day residency at Yale School of Drama, September 14-15.
