The producers of the critically acclaimed AMERICAN IDIOT announced today that Green Day frontman and the musical's composer and co-author Billie Joe Armstrong will return to the role of 'St. Jimmy' for 50 performances beginning on January 1, 2011. Armstrong made a triumphant Broadway debut in a one week engagement last September and played to sold-out houses at the St. James Theatre, 246 West 44 Street.

Chris Jones reports in the Chicago Tribune that the Whoopi Goldberg-produced White Noise may be getting its pre-Broadway try-out in Chicago sometime in the very near future. White Noise director Sergio Trujillo tells the Tribune: 'I think we're going to get it up in Chicago...Soon.'

Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong ended his limited engagement as St. Jimmy in AMERICAN IDIOT on October 3 and surprised the audience with a special encore performance. Check out this video of Billie singing his own 'Goodbye New York' following his final bow at the St. James.

Immediately following this engagement, Mr. Armstrong will join Green Day in Caracas, Venezuela on October 8, 2010 to kick off their South American Tour. Original Broadway cast member and current "St. Jimmy," Tony Vincent, will resume performances on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 following a leave of absence due to a personal family matter. Vincent's understudies, Joshua Kobak and Andrew Call, will cover the role from Tuesday, October 5 - Sunday, October 10, 2010.

Last night, September 13, the cast of AMERICAN IDIOT joined Green Day onstage for the halftime show of the NY Jets game at the New Meadowlands Stadium, performing a rendition of Green Day's Last Of The American Girls. BroadwayWorld has learned that the Broadway-bound White Noise will receive a private industry reading on Friday, October 1, 2010. As BroadwayWorld has previously speculated, Whoopi Goldberg and Tom Leonardis have joined producers Holly Way and Jay Strommen with the intention of bringing the production to Broadway as early as next season. Sands, who was nominated in 2007 for his role in JOURNEY'S END, plays Tunny in the Green Day musical.

Last night, July 25, the cast of American Idiot took the stage at Joe's Pub to benefit Broadway Impact and their continued efforts to fight for marriage equality. The monthly concert features cast members from various Broadway shows, highlighting the show's performers and the theatre community's commitment to equality. The first sold out show featured the cast of Next to Normal and on August 23rd the cast of Memphis will take the stage for the final installment. 100% of the proceeds go directly to Broadway Impact.
