More than 100 local and national theatre artists representing nearly than 60 San Diego theatrical productions will compete for the 2015 Craig Noel Awards, the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle announced today.

There are undoubtedly other productions worthy of merit in 2015 which I did not cover. This list is based only on what I saw and reviewed. (alphabetical listings; Equity, Equity-waiver & Non-Equity productions are mixed) (artists performing outside LA may be included in performance categories) No set, costume, or technical awards. I leave that to the bigger awards and to the expertise of those who really know those fields inside out.

The Cripple of Inishmaan features solid performances. However, you can't help but feel that the material is rather fruitless. Many of McDonagh's works have been featured in DC over the past few seasons. Unfortunately, this isn't one of his better ones and Scena deserves credit for giving it their best.

The respectable Birling family is at home hosting a dinner party in honor of their daughter's recent engagement, when an unforeseen knock at the door brings a sudden stop to the celebration. Enter Inspector Goole, who brings word of the unexpected death of a young woman. The questioning of each family member begins, dark secrets are uncovered and slowly the mystery surrounding the untimely death unravels.

An evening of theater you will long remember.

Inspector Goole (Chris Genebach), already knows the answers to all his questions, yet his method, bullying confirmatory confessions out of the family members, is great theater. Until the advent of the Cockney-accented Goole, the King's English-speaking Birlings mostly fancy themselves honorable, kind, and praiseworthy. In reality, they are the beneficiaries of a caste system which, as Priestley depicts it, is a citadel against the poor, whose poverty is an inevitable outcome of the rules that the caste in the citadel impose. Goole exposes the unsavory truths of this arrangement, destroying all the Birlings' illusions of innocence in the process - perhaps, though the play also makes clear how evergreen and hard-to-eradicate such illusions are.

Moonlight Stage Productions presents BIG FISH based on the celebrated Daniel Wallace novel and the acclaimed Tim Burton film. BIG FISH overflows with heart, humor and spectacular stagecraft. BIG FISH runs tonight, Sept. 9, through Sept. 26, 2015 under the stars at Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista, Calif. When I see that a theater's season includes ROMEO AND JULIET, I often get nervous. As it is one of William Shakespeare's most recognizable plays, I feel like you need a very solid reason to perform it.

As part of its sixth and most ambitious season to date, Unexpected Stage Company-the fast-growing, Washington, D.C.-area professional theater company-will present its first Shakespearean production this summer. Romeo and Juliet: Love Knows No Age is a reimagining of Shakespeare's most famous play, in which the titular characters are in their 70s.The production will run from July 16 through August 9, 2015, at Randolph Road Theater, 4010 Randolph Road, Wheaton, MD (the former Round House space).
