The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. It was established by Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans. To date, the Museum has collected more than 36,000 artifacts and nearly 100,000 individuals have become charter members. The Museum opened to the public on September 24, 2016, as the 19th and newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution.

Black Ensemble Theater Announces 2017 Season: A THEATRE SEASON OF DANCE

Black Ensemble Theater's Founder and CEO Jackie Taylor announces the 2017 Season: A Theater Season of Dance. All productions will spotlight African American dance and artists in different times in history including The Nicholas Brothers, Josephine Baker, The Harlem Renaissance, and Sammy Davis Jr., as well as an historical look at Hip Hop. Performances will be held at the Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center, 4450 N. Clark Street in Chicago.

Legendary Los Angeles Dance Icon Carmen de Lavallade to Celebrate 85th Birthday with AS I REMEMBER IT

For almost seven decades, Carmen de Lavallade has led an unparalleled career in dance, theater, film and television that began in her hometown of Los Angeles.  Now, Ms. de Lavallade returns to celebrate her 85th birthday onstage at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts with As I Remember It, an intimate portrait of the legendary artist told through dance, film, music and her own personal writings. This one-night-only performance will take place on Friday, October 28 at 8pm.

Each night at midnight, Owen Wilson's character travels back in time in Woody Allen's film 'Midnight in Paris.' He meets Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Ernest Hemingway, Man Ray, Josephine Baker, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein and many other famous artists that lived in Paris at the dawn of the 20th Century. 'When watching the film a few years ago I started to wonder where all the artists used to hang out. Was it still possible to go to these places?' Lena Strand says, 'After a little research I found out that many of the places were still open!'
