Beginning June 24, actress Victoria Platt will play the role of Gloria, joining actor Bo Foxworth in the Fountain Theatre's smash hit production of Building the Wall by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan. Building the Wall opened at the Fountain in March, where it was the first in a series of productions taking place across the U.S. as part of a National New Plays Network Rolling World Premiere. ???????Adventure Stage Chicago (ASC), the participatory arts program of Northwestern Settlement (the Settlement), announces its 14th season of programming for young audiences, exploring the theme of "Literacy" as the company applies its mission of telling heroic stories to the Settlement objective of disrupting generational poverty. ASC's "Literacy" season features the stage adaptation of Akeelah and the Bee; a commissioned work by Lucas Baisch, based on the Guatemalan myths of Popol Vuh and created in collaboration with community partners; and an original piece devised by ASC's Trailblazers youth mentorship program. All performances take place at Northwestern Settlement's Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble St. Tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for youth aged 14 years and younger. Group tickets are $10 for ten or more guests. Student matinee tickets are $7 for CPS and $8 for non-CPS groups. Tickets may be purchased at adventurestage.org or by calling 773.342.4141.
The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team of the Globe-commissioned world premiere adaptation of The Imaginary Invalid written by Moliere and reinvented by the acclaimed theatre group Fiasco Theater. Fiasco last delighted Globe audiences with their inventive reimagining of Into the Woods in 2014. This new take on the hilarious classic tale is directed by Fiasco Co-Artistic Directors Jessie Austrian and Noah Brody.
When the 60 Pre K children at the University Settlement House on New York's Lower East Side built their own wall this past spring, its political message countered the one currently circulating through the halls of Congress. This wall, which symbolizes an embrace of all, was constructed from drawings that the children created to depict their family stories and fantasies. Their colorful works of art, drawn on cardboard sections were then connected and transformed into an interactive set created by visual artist Ben Heller for 'Welcome,' a new work choreographed and directed by the 2016 Jerome Robbins Award-winning choreographer Stefanie Batten Bland, the creative brains and heart behind the project. The original score is by Paul Damian Hogan.
