The Wick Theatre proudly presents Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Based on the 1991 Academy Award-winning animated feature film, the musical features music by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and book by Linda Wolverton. The stage version of Beauty and the Beast includes memorable new songs in addition to familiar ones from the animated version such as "Be Our Guest", "Gaston", and the title song "Beauty and the Beast".
I'm always cautiously optimistic in seeing a regional production of Jonathan Larson's Rent as I am a Renthead of MANY years. The thing to remember, obviously, is art has different interpretations. It is interesting to see the different elucidations of the choreography, the varied choices the actors make, the Director's vision, et cetera. I can proudly say that The Gateway Playhouse's incarnation of the Tony and Pulitzer winner, which is kicking off a very busy Summer season for the darling Bellport venue, does not disappoint.

If you're a lover of musical comedy classics you might look a little askance at the production of A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM now running at The Wick Theatre in Boca Raton. All the wonderful songs are there, all the jokes, the pretty girls and super singing, but something's been added. And it doesn't help.
I am a longtime fan of Whoopi Goldberg with her Sister Act movies ranking as some of my all-time favorites. So, as you can imagine, I am thrilled I finally had the opportunity to see the musical adaptation that Ms. Goldberg produced on Broadway at Long Island's Gateway Theatre. Based on the 1955 novel Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis, this Tony Award-nominated classic is filled with irresistible songs including 'Open a New Window,' 'We Need a Little Christmas,' 'Bosom Buddies' and 'If He Walked into My Life.' The book is by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman.
