Theater Latte Da announced today the line-up for the inaugural year of NEXT: New Musicals in the Making, a major new work program to develop new musical theater in the Twin Cities. NEXT opens with When the Moon Hits Your Eye, running April 12-14, followed by C., running April 19-21, and closes with Bessie's Birthday, running April 26-28, all performed at The Lab Theater in the Minneapolis Warehouse District.
National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene Announces New Play Contest; Jason Robert Brown and More on Jury

The Drama Desk Award-winning National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene is announcing a first of its kind new play contest. The contest will encourage writers and directors to conceive and develop new works in Yiddish, or based on Yiddish sources, to add to the great legacy of the Yiddish theatre. The contest's jury includes the producer Manny Azenberg, the composer and songwriter Jason Robert Brown, and the playwrights Joe DiPietro; Israel Horovitz and Jon Marans. The contest's winning play or musical will be showcased during the First New York International Festival of Jewish Performing Arts, which Folksbiene inaugurates in June of 2015 to commemorate its first 100 years.

Almost everyone in this world is married or willing to go out on public dates with women to camouflage his real social life. Few of them can visualize, even to themselves, what it would be like to regard the gay halves of their lives as normal, continuous, and public. It is both touching and interesting to watch.

Olney Theatre Center today announced Martin Platt as their new Artistic Director. Mr. Platt began his tenure on May 28, 2012. He comes to Olney Theatre Center from his current position as Co-Director of Perry Street Theatricals (PST), a New York based producing company.

The Lyric Stage Company of Boston presents the Boston premiere of Jon Marans' Off-Broadway hit THE TEMPERAMENTALS, a chronicle of the love story between Harry Hay and Rudi Gernreich, founders of the Mattachine Society in 1950s Los Angeles. Director Jeremy Johnson's vision employs techniques of film noir to take the audience on a temperamental journey for a view of the grassroots effort that began to change the world, nearly two decades prior to the Stonewall Riots.
