Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Presents Annual Family Concert, THE LOST ELEPHANT, Today

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra will present its annual Family Concert, The Lost Elephant, with Dan Kamin today, February 8, 2014 at 2:00pm and 3:30pm at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. These concerts are designed for the entire family to enjoy. Families are invited to attend 'Meet the Musicians' at 1:15pm or 4:30pm for an interactive experience with ASO musicians and their instruments.

National Portrait Gallery Presents AMERICAN COOL, Now thru 9/7

What does it mean when we say someone is cool? Cool carries a social charge of rebellious self-expression, charisma, edge and mystery. 'American Cool' will feature 100 photographs of icons who have contributed an original artistic vision to American culture and are symbolic figures of their time. The exhibition will be open at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery today, Feb. 7 through Sept. 7.

Woodlawn Theatre to Present INTO THE WOODS, 2/14-3/16

While Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep are in production for the December release of the movie, San Antonio can catch a preview of the epic fairytale, Into the Woods, on the stage at the historic Woodlawn Theatre. Into the Woods opens February 14 and runs through March 16 on the main stage.

Johnny Depp to Receive Artisan Award from Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild

Johnny Depp will receive the Distinguished Artisan Award from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild, Local 706, at their awards ceremony, as announced today by guild President Susan Cabral-Ebert. The Public Theater announced today that THE LIBRARY, a world premiere drama written by award-winning writer Scott Z. Burns and directed by Academy Award winner Steven Soderbergh, has been added to The Public's 2014 spring season. THE LIBRARY, featuring Chloe Grace Moretz, will run in The Public's Newman Theater from Tuesday, March 25 through Sunday, April 27; with an official press opening on Tuesday, April 15. The New York Philharmonic has announced several additions to the cast of its staged production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, March 5-8, 2014: Jeff Blumenkrantz will portray The Beadle; Tony Award winner Christian Borle, Pirelli (marking his Philharmonic debut); Kyle Brenn, Tobias Ragg (debut); Jay Armstrong Johnson, Anthony Hope (debut); Erin Mackey, Johanna (debut); and Olivier Award winner Philip Quast, Judge Turpin (debut and New York stage debut). As previously announced, Sweeney Todd will star bass-baritone Bryn Terfel in the title role and Academy Award-winning actress Emma Thompson as Mrs. Lovett in her Philharmonic debut, New York stage debut, and first time performing the role. Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct, Lonny Price will direct, and Lonny Price and Matt Cowart are the producers.

Families are invited to attend 'Meet the Musicians' at 1:15pm or 4:30pm for an interactive experience with ASO musicians and their instruments. Tickets to the Family Concerts are $12 in all sections, and the performances are recommended for ages 4 and up.
