L.A. Theatre Works to Record Arena Stage's Justice Scalia Play THE ORIGINALIST

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces a unique partnership with L.A. Theatre Works, the nation's leading producer of audio theater, to record John Strand's political drama THE ORIGINALIST, based on Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. The performances will feature the original cast of Arena Stage's world-premiere 2015 production starring Edward Gero as Scalia, Kerry Warren as Cat and Harlan Work as Brad, under the direction of Arena Stage Artistic Director Molly Smith.

Pulitzer Prize Winner Ayad Akhtar Named Arena Stage Resident Playwright

Artistic Director Molly Smith announces Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and author Ayad Akhtar as Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater's next resident playwright as part of the American Voices New Play Institute, effective July 2016 through June 2017. Akhtar's emotionally-charged drama Disgraced, which won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, completes Arena Stage's 2015/16 season. Now in previews, the production officially opens April 28 and runs through May 29, 2016.

New Worlds Theatre Project (Ellen Perecman, Producing Artistic Director) has announced that it will present the world premiere of David Pinski's comic tragedy, Professor Brenner, directed by Paul Takacs, in a translation by Ellen Perecman, beginning Sunday, November 1 at 2pm at HERE, 145 Sixth Avenue. The opening night is set for Monday, November 2 at 7pm.

Tony Award nominee Brandon Uranowitz, currently appearing in An American in Paris, joins the cast of the 2015 Will on the Hill event at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. A favorite bipartisan event of theatre and political fans alike, Will on the Hill returns to the Shakespeare Theatre Company on Monday, June 15, 2015. The cast will also feature special guest performers, STC Affiliated Artist Edward Gero and Samira Wiley, known for her role in Orange is the New Black.

The annual Will on the Hill event welcomes Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle and distinguished Washington insiders onto the Shakespeare Theatre Company stage to perform a political satire infused with Shakespearean language and references. The event pays tribute to the unique dynamic of our city and provides a wonderful way to engage new audiences. Proceeds from this event support STC's many education, artistic, and community engagement programs including in-school workshops and online learning resources that inspire new and diverse audiences and deepen the connection to classical theatre in learners of all ages. Will on the Hill will take place in Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW), and begins with a VIP cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m., and a buffet dinner immediately after the performance.
