Performance Network has announced the extension of their summer smash-hit co-production with Jewish Ensemble Theatre (JET), "My Name is Asher Lev" adapted by Aaron Posner from the novel by Chaim Potok, directed by David Magidson (Artistic Director of JET), starring Naz Edwards, Mitchell Koory, and John Seibert. Extension performances will take place on Saturday, September 14 at 8pm and Sunday, September 15 at 2pm at Performance Network Theatre in Downtown Ann Arbor. Performance Network Theatre and Ugly Mug Cafe & Roastery have announced the first Backstage Art Show in which audiences are escorted backstage after the 85 minute performance of 'My Name is Asher Lev' to engage with works by local visual artists Mike Aul, Dora Diaspora, Alex Mandrila, and Dan Muholland now through September 8.

It truly was 'One Wilde Night,' as approximately 250 professional thespians and their guests attended The 2013 Wilde Awards Aug. 19 at The Berman Center for the Performing Arts in West Bloomfield. Through coincidences and through recurring reference in thoughtful, cogent and brief acceptance speeches, the event was very much a 'family affair.'

"My Name is Asher Lev" adapted by Aaron Posner from the novel by Chaim Potok is the narrative of a young Jewish boy who lives in Brooklyn with his extremely orthodox family as he travels through time, reliving his journey as a painter and the struggles it presented within his family. A proud co-production with Performance Network Theatre in Ann Arbor and the Jewish Ensemble Theatre (JET) in West Bloomfield, "My Name is Asher Lev" received rave reviews from critics at the JET in April. The performances in West Bloomfield were so successful that the JET extended the run through June. "My Name is Asher Lev" is now coming to Performance Network Theatre on August 8 through September 8 starring Naz Edwards, Mitchell Koory, and John Seibert. Ann Arbor's Professional Theatre, Performance Network, whose award-winning productions have been fulfilling its mission "to provide uncompromising artistic leadership in the region and produce works that engage, challenge and inspire audiences and artists" for years, announces a program that will deepen its ability to serve artists by offering a comprehensive training curriculum designed to provide professional acting and business skills to a wide variety of students.

Though Ann Arbor's professional theatre is still in the thick of its record-breaking 30th anniversary season, Performance Network has lined up seven exceptional plays and musicals for its 31st, to begin in the fall.

These days, economic survival is top of mind for many non-profit arts organization. But in the midst of announced theater closures, and lay-offs nationwide, Ann Arbor's professional theater has some good news to report.
