James Joyce Center's Bloomsday 2011 Held June 11-16

BWW Reviews: Vegas: The Show!: This One Deserves The Exclamation!

Think about it: How many times have you seen the title of a show or movie with an exclamation point on the end? There's Oklahoma! Airplane! ¡Three Amigos! Mamma Mia! Hot Shots! Oliver!....and those are only a few. Some of them actually, depending upon your response, may have deserved the exclamation. Most, however, do not. An exception to this general truism is Vegas! The Show.

'Fall and Recover,' Irish choreographer John Scott's poignant and mesmerizing work based on the experiences and stories of survivors of torture in Africa, Asia and Rumania, will receive its United States premiere at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre, March 17-April 3, as part of Imagine Ireland. The 55-minute work is a La MaMa presentation.

La MaMa Moves!, which is dancing into its fifth year has a dance card that is the envy of the ball. It's filled with names such as Sara Rudner, Rashaun Mitchell, John Kelly, Ellen Fisher, Judith Sanchez Ruiz, John Scott, Jennifer Monson, and Doug Elkins--in all, over 75 different performers, many of whom are appearing at La MaMa for the first time, and some of whom will be crossing the pond just for a chance to dance on one of its venerable stages. Dedicated to the 90TH birthday year of Ellen Stewart, the founder and artistic director of La MaMa, the 2010 festival extends from June 4-20.

The Young People's Chorus of New York City will join the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys and the Orchestra of St. Luke's conducted by John Scott in a performance of the Saint Nicolas Cantata in a concert of hymn tunes by Benjamin Britten at Saint Thomas Church (Fifth Avenue at 53rd St.) on Wednesday, May 19, at 7:30 p.m.

Temple Bar's BUMPER 2 BUMPER Returns for 2nd Year on May 8

Bumper 2 Bumper will return to Meeting House Square Saturday, May 8 to celebrate the opening night of Dublin Dance Festival. The headphone disco will start at 9 pm with gates opening at 8.30 pm. Tickets for Bumper 2 Bumper are free but must be picked up in advance from Dublin Dance Festival Box Office at The Culture Box, 12 East Essex Street (opposite Meeting House Square), Temple Bar from May 1st.
