The Arts In Education Program at Harvard Graduate School of Education Presents AUTHOR, AUTHOR, 10/29-11/20

This fall, the Arts in Education Program (AIE) at Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) will present world-renowned photographer Michael Childers' exhibition Author, Author: A Photographic Retrospective of Authors, Playwrights, and Screenwriters (October 29 - November 20, 2015) at the Monroe C. Happy Birthday, Laurence Olivier! Born in 1907, Olivier remains one of the most revered actors of the 20th century. He was the first artistic director of the National Theatre of Great Britain and its main stage is named in his honour. Olivier's career as a stage and film actor spanned more than six decades and included a wide variety of roles, from the title role in Shakespeare's Othello and Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night to the sadistic Nazi dentist Christian Szell in Marathon Man and the kindly but determined Nazi-hunter in The Boys from Brazil. Olivier played more than 120 stage roles: Richard III, Macbeth, Romeo, Hamlet, Othello, Uncle Vanya, and Archie Rice in The Entertainer. He appeared in nearly sixty films, including William Wyler's Wuthering Heights, Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca, Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus, Otto Preminger's Bunny Lake Is Missing, Richard Attenborough's Oh! What a Lovely War, and A Bridge Too Far, Joseph L. Mankiewicz's Sleuth, John Schlesinger's Marathon Man, Daniel Petrie's The Betsy, Desmond Davis' Clash of the Titans, and his own Henry V, Hamlet, and Richard III.

Christopher Nolan to Receive the Cinematic Imagery Award

Christopher Nolan will receive the prestigious Cinematic Imagery Award from the Art Directors Guild (ADG) at its 19th Annual Art Directors Guild's Excellence in Production Design Awards, it was announced today by ADG Council Chairman John Shaffner and Awards Producers Dave Blass and James Pearse Connelly. Comedian Owen Benjamin will host the black-tie ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, set for January 31, 2015.

Palm Springs ShortFest Premieres Michael Childers' Documentary HOLLYWOOD IN THE DESERT SKY Today

The Palm Springs International Film Society's Short Fest will debut a new documentary - 'Hollywood In The Desert Sky; A Conversation With Photographer Michael Childers' today, June 18 at 2:00 pm at The Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs. 'All my life I've been photographing some of the great artists of my time,' says Childers. Internationally renowned for his portraits of pop culture icons, Childers spent a lifetime of collecting art with the late John Schlesinger, Oscar-winning director of 'Midnight Cowboy' and many other films of note including 'Marathon Man' and 'The Falcon and the Snowman.' They were partners for 37 years and that life culminated in an art collection that filled their Rancho Mirage home.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles(R) (BAFTA Los Angeles) is pleased to announce that award winning actor and comedian Rob Brydon will host the 2013 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards presented by BBC AMERICA. Moving Image to Screen FUN CITY: NEW YORK IN THE MOVIES 1967-75, Begin. Today

Movies filmed in New York City that tapped into the turmoil, chaos, and social and cultural energies of the late 1960s and early 1970s are the subject of the screening series Fun City: New York in the Movies 1967-75, curated by film critic and historian J. Hoberman. The series, which will be accompanied by a new monograph written by Hoberman, includes nineteen films, and will be presented by Museum of the Moving Image from August 10 through September 1. The films include established classics such as Rosemary's Baby, The French Connection, Midnight Cowboy, and Dog Day Afternoon, as well as lesser known films such as The Angel Levine, Bye Bye Braverman, and Cotton Comes to Harlem.
