The New York Festival of Song Launches Its Second Season of NYFOS AFTER HOURS, 10/20

Monday, October 20 at 10:00 p.m., New York Festival of Song (NYFOS) launches its second season of the NYFOS After Hours cabaret series at HENRY's Restaurant, 2745 Broadway at 105th Street. These evenings are an uncanny mixture of intimacy and dynamite, the cozy and the colossal, with singers that one would ordinarily see on a much larger stage.

Paul Appleby, Andrew Garland Will Join Julia Bullock in VOCE: RISING OPERA STARS IN RECITAL

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Joseph Kaiser will no longer be participating in the Sunday, September 21st performance of Voce: Rising Opera Stars in Recital. Paul Appleby (tenor) and Andrew Garland (baritone) will be joining Julia Bullock (soprano) and pianist, Steven Blier for the afternoon featuring French and American repertories.

American Opera Projects to Debut New Works at COMPOSERS & THE VOICE: SIX SCENES 2014, 9/12 & 14

A Stonewall-era drag queen and the cop entranced by her. A princess manipulates her captor during the Crusades. A man's literal vacation from Hell. On­­­­ Friday, September 12 and Sunday, September 14 at 7:30 PM, AOP (American Opera Projects) will present these and other excerpts of new operas at COMPOSERS & THE VOICE: SIX SCENES 2014, the culmination of this season's Composers & the Voice (C&V) opera training program. Audiences will see scenes by five emerging composers - Guy Barash, Avner Finberg, Jeremy Gill, Andreia Pinto-Correia, Gity Razaz - and one composer/librettist team, Joseph Rubinstein and Jason Kim, who were chosen by AOP to spend a year creating new works focusing on the operatic voice. The performances will be held at South Oxford Space in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, home of AOP. Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for students/seniors and are available at www.operaprojects.org.

Opera on Tap Presents NEW BREW SINGS NEW YORK, Today

After quite the rough winter, summer is almost upon us in NYC. What better way to spend your Today June 13th than with an icy cold pint and fresh music from Opera on Tap's New Brew! Join us as we celebrate the city that never sleeps with an evening of American songs by New Yorkers spanning this century and the last, curated by tenor Paul Sperry. Featured composers will include Samuel Barber, Paul Bowles, Tom Cipullo, John Corigliano, Vernon Duke, William Flanagan, Richard Hundley, Tom Lehrer, John Musto, New Rorem, William Schmann, David Sisco, Warren Michael Swenson, Virgil Thomson, and Hugo Weisgall, with New Brew's own Christopher Berg on the ivories.

Generations of songwriters have answered the call of the west, finding musical inspiration in the beauty, geography and diverse cultures of Southern California. Throughout the month of June, the Songs in the Key of Los Angeles tour, presented by LA Opera in partnership with SongFest and the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, will bring the rich musical history of Los Angeles to life with classic songs—some well known, and some little remembered today—that have been loved by generations of Angelenos.

Opera Colorado Announces Upcoming Productions - MADAMA BUTTERFLY, THE MAGIC FLUTE, and More

Opera Colorado announced today that it will present Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly(November 2014), W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute (May 2015), Giuseppe Verdi's Aida (November 2015), and the world premiere of Lori Laitman's The Scarlet Letter (May 2016) starring Elizabeth Futral as Hester Prynne. A vital presence in Denver's cultural ecology, Opera Colorado is the Rocky Mountain region's preeminent grand opera company. The Opera's programming includes mainstage productions, artist development initiatives, and education and community engagement programming.

American Lyric Theater Receives NEA Grant

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that American Lyric Theater (ALT) is one of 886 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. ALT is recommended for a $35,000 grant to support the Composer Librettist Development Program - the only full time professional mentorship initiative for emerging operatic writers in the country.

Concert Artists Guild Welcomes Lysander Piano Trio to Carnegie Hall Tonight

Concert Artists Guild presents the dynamic Lysander Piano Trio, winner of the 2012 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition, on its Concerts in New York series this evening, April 3rd at 7:30 p.m. at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. The concert features works by Schubert, Shostakovich, and Brahms, as well as the world premiere of Jakub Ciupi?ski's The Black Mirror (commissioned by CAG) and the Piano Trio by Grammy-nominated American composer John Musto.
