Featuring a range of objects created over the past 60 years, the exhibition What Would Mrs. Webb Do? A Founder's Vision celebrates Aileen Osborn Webb, who established the Museum of Arts and Design, then the Museum of Contemporary Crafts, in 1956. On view from today, September 23, 2014, through February 8, 2015, the exhibition explores how Webb, through her advocacy work at MAD and other leading institutions across the country and internationally, championed the skilled maker as integral to America's future.

The John Marshall Jazz Quintet will fill Abingdon's June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street) with the sound of Jazz for a one-night-only concert on Sunday, August 17 at 7pm. Set to join trumpeter John Marshall are Grant Stewart on saxophone, Tardo Hammer on keyboard, David Wong on bass and Jimmy Wormworth on drums.

On January 28 at 7pm, Main Street Theater will present the first reading of local playwright Thomas Hagemann's latest work, 1946. Main Street produced the world premiere of Hagemann's Breakfast at Eight in 2010. This staged reading, which will be followed by a discussion with the playwright and wine and cheese reception, is a Part of the Art Series event at Main Street and will benefit MST's current Capital Campaign to purchase and renovate its Times Blvd. location in Rice Village. Tickets are $50 and $25 (and $25 of the $50 ticket is tax-deductible).
