Tony Award winner John Lloyd Young, who is best known for his Tony-winning portrayal of "Frankie Valli" in the original Broadway JERSEY BOYS and for his performance in the 2014 film, returned for a sold out cabaret concert My Turn at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal in North Hollywood on September 15, 2015.
Good morning, BroadwayWorld! Because we know all our readers eat, sleep and breathe Broadway, what could be better than waking up to it? Today's big news: Off-Broadway is in the spotlight with two openings and lots of photo ops!
Today, I am kicking off the series with “Five Things About the JERSEY BOYS Movie,” a film that I failed to see in the theater because all of the horrendous reviews Clint Eastwood's direction received. Released in June 2014, the movie tells the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Based on the Tony and Grammy winning musical of the same name, the film adaptation went through a number of iterations during development. Initially Tony-winning playwright, and TV and movie scribe John Logan was to pen the screenplay and Jon Favreau (of ELF, IRON MAN, and SWINGERS fame) was slated to direct.
Carmine's on the Upper West Side (2450 Broadway, NYC, 212-362-2200, carminesnyc.com) celebrated its 25th anniversary on Monday evening in grand fashion. Broadway actors from 'Jersey Boys' -- Joseph Leo Bwarie, Richard Blake and Miles Aubrey -- along with Preston Truman Boyd from 'On the 20th Century' performed for party guests and enjoyed Carmine's classic Italian favorites.
After a sold-out engagement this past New Year's Eve, Tony Award winner John Lloyd Young makes his triumphant return to Feinstein's at the Nikko for two performances only - Tonight, July 24 (8 p.m.) and Saturday, July 25 (7 p.m.). The original Tony winning star of Broadway's Jersey Boys and Clint Eastwood's recent film adaptation, John Lloyd Young transitions from the Four Seasons catalogue to classic 60s R&B standards with this set of songs from his new album, 'MY TURN...' Of Young's recent New York debut of these time-tested, emotional ballads, The New York Times writes, 'Mr. Young has a disciplined one-in-a-million high tenor shading into falsetto that he can direct through the stratosphere.' Tickets for John Lloyd Young range in price from $70 - $85 and are on-sale now and available by calling 866.663.1063 or visiting www.ticketweb.com.
Founded by BroadwayWorld TV's own Michael Sterling (On-air Producer and Host for live entertainment news events in Los Angeles), Sterling's Upstairs first opened its doors at the renowned Vitello's Restaurant in Studio City, CA. where it single handedly brought back to Los Angeles the art of intimate upscale cabaret concerts which had all but vanished from the cultural scene in movie town, USA. However, in due time, the venue was whole heartedly embraced by enthusiasts of LA's performing arts community and continued to thrive for 6 successful years in a former storage room that was transformed by Sterling into a true supper club environment.
