According to the Hollywood Reporter, HBO has officially picked up Aaron Sorkin's 'The Newsroom' for a second season. The series, which premiered on June 24, airs Sunday nights at 10pm. Additionally, the network has also renewed 'True Blood' for a sixth season.
According to a report by E! Online, Tony Award winner John Gallagher, Jr., who played opposite Lea Michele in Spring Awakening in 2006, will sing in his new role on HBO's THE NEWSROOM, written and produced by Aaron Sorkin.

Happy Birthday, John Gallagher, Jr.! Gallagher originated the role of Moritz Stiefel in Spring Awakening on Broadway after performing the role Off-Broadway and in workshops at Lincoln Center. Gallagher won the 2007 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance.
In 2010, Gallagher starred in American Idiot, a musical based on the Green Day album of the same name, playing Johnny aka 'Jesus of Suburbia'. He most recently starred in the Broadway production of The Royal Court Theatre's Jerusalem.
