Jeff Award Winners Announced; HISTORY BOYS Dominate

Yesterday evening marked the 41st annual Jeff Equity Awards Ceremony, honoring productions and production companies for excellence in Chicago-area theater. The ceremony took place at at the Skokie's North Shore Center for the Performing Arts.

The Jeff Awards have announced 179 nominations in 35 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions which opened between August 1, 2008, and July 31, 2009.

The show, which last month wrapped up its record-breaking 27-year run in New York makes its first visit to London in 10 years.

Menier Chocolate Factory's FORBIDDEN BROADWAY Opens To Raves; Runs Through 9/13

FORBIDDEN BROADWAY is a runaway hit at London's Menier Chocolate Factory, where the show opened for a twelve-week run on July 2 to raves and crowds. The legendary theatrical lampoon, which ended (at least for the time being) its 27-year New York run on March 1, has been retooled for London and restaged for the Menier Chocolate Factory by creator Gerard Alessandrini and long-time collaborator Phillip George.

The 54th Annual Drama Desk Awards were held, Sunday, May 17, 2009 in the LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center. Drama Desk nominees received their official Nomination Certificates at a cocktail reception on Friday, May 1st at Il Bastardo restaurant, 191 Seventh Avenue (between 21st and 22nd Streets).

On Tuesday, October 2nd, Gerard Alessandrini's Forbidden Broadway marked its 25th Anniversary with a brand-new edition Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening, at the 47th Street Theatre. To mark the occasion, Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Office of Theatre, Film and Television named October 2, 2007 as 'Forbidden Broadway Day.' Chita Rivera read a proclamation from Mayor Michael Bloomberg and unveiled a street sign renaming West 47th Street 'Forbidden Broadway.'

To mark the occasion, Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Office of Theatre, Film and Television has named October 2, 2007 as 'Forbidden Broadway Day.' At 6PM, prior to the opening night performance on October 2, two-time Tony Award winner (and beloved subject of Forbidden Broadway parodies) Chita Rivera will be on hand to read a proclamation from Mayor Michael Bloomberg and unveil a street sign renaming West 47th Street 'Forbidden Broadway.' Opening night curtain is at 7PM.

Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening, the 25th Anniversary edition of Gerard Alessandrini's long-running musical, has moved its opening night performance to Tuesday, October 2. The opening has been delayed a week to allow Alessandrini an additional week to add new material to the latest edition, which is currently in previews at the 47th Street Theatre.
