The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts welcomes the Royal Swedish Ballet for five performances of renowned choreographer Mats Ek's Juliet and Romeo in the Kennedy Center Opera House, June 1-4, 2016. Having last graced the Kennedy Center stage more than 15 years ago, the Royal Swedish Ballet returns with the North American premiere of Mats Ek's visionary take on Shakespeare's immortal tragedy-a work brimming with modern twists and winner of the 2015 Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production. Casting includes the extraordinary Ana Laguna, Mats Ek's wife and muse. The Thursday, June 2 performance is followed by a free Explore the Arts post-performance discussion with Mats Ek. The Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra will accompany all performances.

This spring, Portland's Milagro Theatre, whose mission since 1985 has been to provide 'extraordinary Latino theatre, culture, and arts education experiences for the enrichment of all communities' is presenting the world premiere of its first commissioned play, INTO THE BEAUTIFUL NORTH: AN ADVENTUROUS QUEST, by Karen Zacarias, based on the novel by Luis Alberto Urrea. The word itself is used frequently in Tony Kushner's Tony-nominated musical, which takes place in 1963 amidst the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights movement, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Matt Conner directs Creative Cauldron's production, an apt choice given the piece's enduring thematic significance and a phenomenal turn by Iyona Blake as the unflappable Caroline Thibodeaux.

Association of California Symphony Orchestras (ACSO) executive director Kris Sinclair will be presented with the League of American Orchestras' highest honor, the Gold Baton, at the League's National Conference in Baltimore, June 9-11. Sinclair, who is retiring this year after thirty-one years at ACSO's helm, will receive the award at the League's Annual Meeting, June 10, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront.

Danbury, Conn. - Western Connecticut State University's fall theatre arts production, "Parade," was nominated for 14 national awards and won five, including "Outstanding Production of a Musical," Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Musical," "Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Musical," "Best Director of a Musical" and "Outstanding Choreography" at the American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., earlier this month.
