Ensemble Connect Embarks On 12th Season With Eighteen New Musicians

Ensemble Connect embarks on its 12th season with a new group of young professional classical musicians joining the fellowship program from around the world. Following a rigorous audition process, 18 fellows were selected from across the United States and also from Israel, Japan, Canada, Taiwan, Hungary, and Korea. The fellows will perform 12 concerts in the New York City area this season at venues including Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Paul Hall at The Juilliard School, Our Saviour's Atonement Lutheran Church and the Jackson Heights Branch Library as part of Carnegie Hall Citywide, and in Saratoga Springs, NY as part of Ensemble Connect's continuing biannual residency at Skidmore College.

The LA Phil And Dudamel Kicked Off The Centennial Season With The Opening Night Gala & Concert: California Soul

The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel ushered in the orchestra's Centennial season with a celebratory Opening Night Concert & Gala, California Soul, Thursday, September 27, 7 pm, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. The festive evening featured singers Chris Martin of Coldplay, who brought Dudamel and the LA Phil's YOLA musicians to the 2016 Super Bowl, and Corinne Bailey Rae, who performed at the Hollywood Bowl earlier this year.

San Francisco Opera Presents Richard Strauss' ARABELLA

San Francisco Opera presents Richard Strauss' Arabella in five performances at the War Memorial Opera House from October 16 through November 3. Last performed by the Company 20 years ago, Arabella returns in Tim Albery's acclaimed production with leading Strauss interpreter Marc Albrecht, making his United States opera debut on the podium. The cast features soprano Ellie Dehn performing the title role for the first time, baritone Brian Mulligan in his role debut as Mandryka, soprano Heidi Stober as Zdenka, tenor Daniel Johansson in his first San Francisco Opera engagement as Matteo and Hye Jung Lee as the Fiakermilli. Company Chorus Director Ian Robertson prepares the San Francisco Opera Chorus.

Phoenix Chorale Opens 60th Season DESERT & RIVERS

The Phoenix Chorale opens its milestone 60th Anniversary Season with Desert and Rivers, a lush concert filled with music inspired by the contrasting landscapes of our home state. The September concerts are the first of the ensemble's celebratory season, with each concert of the season celebrating a unique aspect of the Phoenix Chorale's roots, origins and history.

Daníel Bjarnason To Release New Album COLLIDER on Bedroom Community

Icelandic conductor, curator, and composer Daníel Bjarnason releases his next album, Collider, worldwide on October 26, 2018 on the Bedroom Community label. Collider includes Bjarnason's orchestral works Blow Bright, The Isle is Full of Noises, and Collider and features Bjarnason as both composer and conductor. The album was recorded by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and The Hamrahlid Choir at the landmark Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik, Iceland while Bjarnason was Artist-in-Residence with the Orchestra in 2015 and 2016. Collider will be available from Bedroom Community digitally (FLAC/WAV/MP3). Christopher Tarnow was Tonmeister and recording producer for the album; it was produced by Valgeir Sigurðsson, with Georg Magnússon as recording engineer, mixed by Sigurðsson and Bjarnason, and mastered by Sigurðsson at Greenhouse Studios.

John Densmore Confirmed As Special Guest At L.A. Philharmonic Opening Night

Drummer John Densmore, a founding member of The Doors, is confirmed to perform with LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel and the orchestra in the Los Angeles Philharmonic Opening Night Concert: California Soul, Thursday, September 27. Densmore will perform a classic California song by The Doors, L.A. Woman, on a program dedicated to the music of California to launch the orchestra's Centennial season. Additional classic songs of California will be announced from the stage.    

San Diego Symphony Announces Annual January Festival

The San Diego Symphony's annual January Festival returns in its fourth year entitled, Hearing the Future. Throughout the festival, which runs January 9 - 27, 2019, the organization explores and celebrates the power of music and art to give voice to the evolution and revolutions in the world at large. The festival, curated by composer-conductor Matthew Aucoin (b.1990), will shine a spotlight on the music being made today - from composers and performers who are still in high school, to a 90-year-old jazz master. The festival will also explore the way music from the past - from Haydn, Beethoven and Berlioz to the creators of African-American spirituals - engaged with the most urgent issues of their time.

Christ Church Celebrates New Organ With IN PLAIN AIR

The Neighborhood House program of Christ Church Preservation Trust, a catalyst for the arts at historic Christ Church, presents five free world premiere performances of In Plain Air, a work in multiple movements by composers Nathan Davis and Phyllis Chen that marks the culmination of the International Contemporary Ensemble's year-long residency in celebration of Christ Church's new C.B. Fisk pipe organ, Opus 150. Performances will take place at Christ Church today, September 22 at 1pm, 3:30pm, and 6pm and on Sunday, September 23 at 3:30pm and 6pm. Movements employing Christ Church's historic bells, custom instruments, and itinerant musicians will convey audiences across the entire Christ Church campus before introducing them to Opus 150. Presented in partnership with FringeArts, all performances of In Plain Air will be free. Major support for In Plain Air has been provided by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.

Through the 125 Commissions Project, Carnegie Hall expands upon its history as the preeminent venue where music history is made.

LA Phil's LA FEST Explores The Sounds Of Los Angeles

The LA Phil celebrates its centennial year with LA Fest, a genre-spanning exploration of the sounds of the city that has inspired it for the last 100 years. Across six performances between October 4 to 14, LA Fest will offer a glimpse into Los Angeles' complex musical makeup, featuring orchestral collaborations, led by Gustavo Dudamel, with some of LA's most world-renowned musicians, including Herbie Hancock, Andrew Bird, and Moby; the world premiere of Sustain, a new work by Andrew Norman; additional world premieres of LA Phil-commissioned pieces; performances from LA favorites La Santa Cecilia and Cuco; and more at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Highlighting the LA Phil's commitment to new music, programs will open with performances of LA Phil-commissioned works from past seasons by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Steven Stucky, Gabriela Ortiz, Julia Adolphe, and John Adams.

The Wallis Presents Los Angeles Master Chorale's LAGRIME DI SAN PIETRO

Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, a dynamic hub for the lively arts and vital community resource, presents the Los Angeles Master Chorale in two performances of Orlando di Lasso's dramatic a cappella masterpiece Lagrime di San Pietro (Tears of St. Peter) directed by Peter Sellars on Saturday, October 20, and Sunday, October 21, 2018, at 7:30 pm, in the Bram Goldsmith Theater at The Wallis. Conducted by the Master Chorale's Associate Conductor Jenny Wong and featuring 21 singers, the production is the first a cappella staging and most personal and emotionally-charged work to date from the acclaimed director's creative mind. Twenty-one singers transform the 75-minute Renaissance masterpiece - committed to memory and dramatically staged - into both a biblical parable of St. Peter's disavowal of Jesus Christ and a contemporary allegory for our fractious times. This marks The Wallis debut of the Master Chorale, whose appearance is part of a 13-city international tour that also includes performances at the Ravinia Festival in Illinois, the Melbourne International Arts Festival in Australia, Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, The Barbican Centre in London and the Cite de la Musique in Paris.

Theater Unspeakable, a devised, physical theater company based in Chicago that has received tremendous critical acclaim across the U.S., presents THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, a whirlwind re-telling of the American fight for independence at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N Lincoln Avenue, for a limited engagement October 17 through November 11, with a press opening at 2 p.m. on October 20.
