Charles, Chastin & More Join Hoffman And Ortiz For Public Theater's OTHELLO Beginning 9/12 At Skirball Center

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced complete casting today for the first production of the 2009-2010 Season, OTHELLO, directed by Peter Sellars. This highly-anticipated contemporary production, featuring the previously announced John Ortiz as Othello and Philip Seymour Hoffman as Iago, will play for 23 performances only, beginning on Saturday, September 12 at NYU Skirball Center. Single tickets go on-sale on Monday, August 3.

Program Announced For Mostly Mozart Festival, Runs 7/28-8/22

Jane Moss, Artistic Director, today announced the programming for the 43rd season of the Mostly Mozart Festival, which runs from July 28 through August 22, 2009, and offers 52 events, including concerts, pre-concert recitals, late-night performances, films, and lectures.

Opera Grows In Brooklyn Returns To Galapagos Art Center 7/17

AMERICAN OPERA PROJECTS (AOP), 'known for bringing cutting-edge vocal production to the masses,' (New York) and OPERA ON TAP ('...raucous and sublime...un-elitist, imperfect, and fun...'- NY Sun) will present the second installment of its Opera Grows in Brooklyn series, an evening of all new opera scenes and songs from contemporary composers, including new music from David T. Little, a new song-cycle based on the poetry of three Brooklyn schoolgirls ages 9-12 by composer Gilda Lyons, and the NYC premiere of Stefan Weisman's opera Fade.

The annual summer collaboration between the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and the award-winning New Jersey Youth Theatre (NJYT) undertakes its most ambitious production yet with a retelling of Stephen Sondheim?s macabre, Tony Award-winning musical thriller, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. In this Summer Musical Program, talented young actors and musicians from across the state learn what it takes to mount a Broadway-level production, from acting, singing and dancing to playing in the orchestra and behind the scenes work, all at no cost to them.

Laura Linney To Star In MTC's TIME STANDS STILL, Opens 01/28/2010

Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Laura Linney ('John Adams,' The Savages) will play the lead role in Manhattan Theatre Club's upcoming New York premiere of TIME STANDS STILL by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Donald Margulies. The limited engagement, to be directed by Tony winner Daniel Sullivan (Accent on Youth, Sight Unseen on Broadway, Brooklyn Boy, Dinner with Friends) will begin previews at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street) on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 in preparation for a Thursday, January 28, 2010 opening night. The production had previously been announced to play MTC's New York City Center - Stage I.

Cleale Returns To THE FANTASTICKS, McDaniel Joins On June 29th

Fresh from his acclaimed stint as Jordan 'Bick' Benedict in the Signature Theatre's production of Michael John LaChiusa's Giant, Lewis Cleale has returned to the role of El Gallo in The Fantasticks. He previously played the role from September 2008 through March 2009. Addi McDaniel will join the cast as Luisa on Monday, June 29, 2009. They replace, respectively, Bradley Dean and Ramona Mallory.

Maazel Receives Honors From Office Of NYC Mayor & NY Philharmonic

Lorin Maazel was honored last night by The City of New York and by the New York Philharmonic at the first of his final series of concerts with the Orchestra as Music Director. The French-born American conductor, who first led the Philharmonic at the age of 12, received a Proclamation from the Office of the Mayor designating June 24, 2009, as 'Maestro Lorin Maazel Day.'
