Diana Damrau to Perform at Carnegie Hall, 12/6

?Named "Best Female Singer" at the 2014 International Opera Awards, German soprano Diana Damrau appears in recital with pianist Craig Rutenberg at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, December 6 at 2:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. Ms. Damrau and Mr. Rutenberg perform German lieder by Schubert and R. Strauss, French songs by Poulenc and Manuel Rosenthal, and Dvo?ak's Zigeunermelodien.

Philadelphia Orchestra & Yannick Nezet-Seguin Launch Four-Concert Series Tonight

Tonight, October 13 at 8:00 p.m., Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin leads The Philadelphia Orchestra in its first of four Carnegie Hall concerts this season in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The orchestra performs Bartok's Violin Concerto No. 2 with renowned soloist Gil Shaham on a program that also features Grieg's Suite No. 1 from Peer Gynt and Sibelius's Symphony No. 5 in E-flat Major, Op. 82.

Manfred Honeck will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus Overture; Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5, Turkish, with Augustin Hadelich as soloist; and Brahms's Symphony No. 4. The program of works by Austrian and German composers, featuring an Austrian conductor and German violinist, takes place tonight, May 28, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 29 at 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, May 30 at 8:00 p.m.

BWW Reviews: Gelsey Kirkland Ballet Presents Harlequinade and Cavalry Halt

On March 27 & 28, 2015, Co-Artistic Directors, Gelsey Kirkland and Michael Chernov presented, at Peter Norton Symphony Space, a double bill of Marius Petipa's ballets of another era, well chosen for their young company, a large number of whom are students at the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet. Harlequinade, choreographed in 1900, to the music of Riccardo Drigo, is a classic comedy based on the characters of Commedia Dell'Arte. Cavalry Halt, created in 1896, to the music of Johann Armsheimer and Johann Strauss, is rarely performed today. I had never seen it.

Richmond Symphony Orchestra Releases Schedule for 2015-16 Season

February 19, 2015 - Richmond, Virginia Music Director Steven Smith and Executive Director David Fisk announced the 2015-16 season of the Richmond Symphony (RSO). The season features new series, a change of location, world-renowned guest artists and concerts designed to appeal to diverse audiences throughout the Richmond region. The season will again be led by the artistic team of Steven Smith, Lewis T. Booker Music Director Chair, Keitaro Harada, Associate Conductor and Dr. Erin R. Freeman, Director of the Richmond Symphony Chorus and James Erb Choral Chair.
