BWW Review: ABSOLUTE HELL, National Theatre

The original version of Rodney Ackland's provocative work, The Pink Room, had a bruising reception back in 1952, losing thousands for investor Terence Rattigan amidst furious reviews. Since salvaged by the Orange Tree in the Eighties, its rebirth was cemented by a Judi Dench-starring production at the National, where it now returns for an intriguing if not entirely convincing encore.

BWW Interview: Charles Edwards Talks ABSOLUTE HELL

Two decades after it was previously performed at the National Theatre, Rodney Ackland's Absolute Hell returns to the very stage it played back then: the Lyttelton. With a career spanning over two decades too across stage and screen, Charles Edwards is no stranger to the National Theatre. Catching up during rehearsals, Charles spoke to us about his 'innate connection' to the play, and reveals the greatest challenge he's faced in his career (which came only last year).

Leo Bill's work includes Laura Wade's Posh, Light Shining in Buckinghamshire at the National, the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring Hamlet at the Barbican, and, on screen, Mike Leigh's Vera Drake and TV series Taboo. He's currently playing Bottom in Joe Hill-Gibbins's dark production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, which begins previews at the Young Vic on 11 February.

BWW Interview: Theatre Life with Jeff James

Today's subject is living his theatre life on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond. Jeff James is the Associate Director for the internationally and critically acclaimed production of A View from the Bridge, which begins performances this evening at Kennedy Center and runs through December 3rd. He has been a part of the current production of A View from the Bridge at the Young Vic in London, London's West End, Theatre de l'Odeon in Paris, and on Broadway where it won two Tony Awards (Best Director and Best Revival of a Play).

Chris Ioan Roberts' DEAD ROYAL Comes to Ovalhouse, April 21-25

Villa Windsor, Paris, 1981 - Wallis, Duchess of Windsor aged 82, invites Lady Diana Spencer aged 19 to a despair-laden bachelorette party on the eve of her wedding to the Prince of Wales. Chris Ioan Roberts' Dead Royal is a lacerating, camp-drenched celebration of 1980s narcissistic megalomania. The production will play Ovalhouse, 52-54 Kennington Oval, London SE11 5SW Tuesday 21st - Saturday 25th April 2015. Press night: Wednesday 22nd April, 7.45 p.m.
