BWW Review: THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS (THE MUSICAL!) Now Playing in Olathe, Kansas

The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) continues at the Olathe Civic Theatre Association through March 1 at the theater located in Olathe, Kansas. Written by Joanne Bogart and Eric Rockwell the musical is a parody of five musical theater composers, all dealing with the same plot, 'I can't pay the rent!'

Patti LuPone on Social Media: "Some People Think I'm a Dinosaur"

Broadway legend Patti LuPone is currently back on stage in LA Opera's The Ghosts of Versailles, by composer John Corigliano and librettist William C. Hoffman. The opera gets its long awaited west coast premiere in a new production directed by 2014 Tony Award winner Darko Tresnjak, running through March 1.

Bolshoi Ballet's SWAN LAKE Set for Ridgefield Playhouse, 3/21

The Bolshoi's Ballet masterpiece Swan Lake, danced in Moscow to Tchaikovsky's famous, lyrical score, will be broadcast in HD at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, March 21, at 6 p.m. Performed to perfection by the unparalleled virtuosity of Russia's great Bolshoi, this universal and enchanting story of love, deception and drama is a must to experience. In the leading roles are Svetlana Zakharova, Denis Rodkin and Artemy Belyakov. Swan Lake depicts the tragic love between Princess Odette and Prince Siegfried.

The House Theatre of Chicago to Host Third Annual THE SECRET SOIREE, 3/21

Griffin Theatre's BALM IN GILEAD to Run 3/14-4/19 at The Den Theatre

Griffin Theatre Company will continue its 2014-15 season with Lanford Wilson's acclaimed drama BALM IN GILEAD directed by ensemble member Jonathan Berry and featuring an ensemble cast of 27 actors and musicians. BALM IN GILEAD will play March 14 - April 19, 2015 at The Den Theatre, 1329-1333 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago. Tickets are currently available at www.griffintheatre.com. The press preview is Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 pm.

Guthrie Theater Welcomes New Artistic Director

The Guthrie Theater announced today that Joseph Haj will become its eighth artistic director in July 2015, succeeding Joe Dowling. The announcement by Board Chair Lee Skold and Search Committee Chair Patricia Simmons ends an extensive year-long search.

TACT's ABUNDANCE Begins Tonight Off-Broadway

TACT/The Actors Company Theatre presents Abundance, the 1990 play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley (Crimes of the Heart). An epic tale of friendship set against the backdrop of the sweeping American West, Abundance will be directed by TACT Co-Artistic Director Jenn Thompson, who directed last season's production of William Inge's Natural Affection. Performances begin at Theatre Row's Beckett Theatre (410 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Avenues) tonight, February 17, 2015.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Presents MOZART'S GREAT MASS with Masaaki Suzuki, 3/12-14

One of the world's leading 18th-century music specialists, Japan's Masaaki Suzuki, makes his Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) debut leading the Orchestra in an all-Mozart program, Thursday, March 12 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore, and Friday, March 13 at 8 p.m. andSaturday, March 14 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Featuring the composer's Don Giovanni Overture and Violin Concerto No. 5, performed by young German violinist Augustin Hadelich, the concert culminates with Mozart's Mass in C minor, otherwise known as the “Great” Mass. Lincoln Center Theater has announced that Patti LuPone, Dale Soules, and Michael Urie will be featured in the cast of its upcoming production of SHOWS FOR DAYS, a new play by Douglas Carter Beane, to be directed by Jerry Zaks. The production will begin performances Saturday evening, June 6 and open on Monday, June 29 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street).

Grand Rapids Art Museum to Hold LaughFest Central Comedy Evening, 2/16

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Feb. 11, 2015 – LaughFest Central will open its doors Monday, Feb. 16, at the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) GOSite space, located at 101 Monroe Center. The festival headquarters will serve as a focal point for LaughFest information, as well as a location where tickets and merchandise can be purchased. Prior to the festival, LaughFest Central will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondaythrough Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. During the festival, from March 5 to 15, hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

BWW Reviews: Intimate Staging of RENT Brings the Characters Into Sharp Focus

Based on Puccini's La Boheme, the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning musical RENT with book, music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson is a rock opera that tells the story of one year in the life of a group of bohemians struggling in the East Village alphabet city streets of New York during the 1990s. The production at the intimate Hollywood Cupcake Theater features a rotating cast of industry professionals who bring the characters to life brilliantly.

Mercer County Artists Award Announced

The Mercer County arts community came out in force to view the rich and varied works of fellow artists at the Awards Ceremony and Opening Reception for “Mercer County Artists 2015” on February 4. The exhibit is on display through February 27 at the Gallery at Mercer County Community College (MCCC), located on the second floor of the Communications Building on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
