Five Broadway Dance Makers Vie for this Year's Tony Award

Now that the Tony Award nominations have been announced, it looks like a pretty competitive race for 'Best Choreography.' The category is full of creative and diverse work from four established Broadway vets, and the debut of a new modern voice. Each put their own distinctive stamp on dance genres that include tap, hip-hop, salsa, and traditional folk dances with a twist. Here are the five guys to watch out for on June 12th.

Signature Theatre presents the world premiere of DAPHNE'S DIVE, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes (Water by the Spoonful, In the Heights) and directed by Thomas Kail (Hamilton, Fox's 'Grease: Live'). The production is currently in previews for an extended run through June 12, with a May 15 opening night in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). Fully Committed is currently playing a strictly limited engagement through July 24, 2016 on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre. The production has just unveiled a new composite image, featuring a handful of Ferguson's many characters!

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, this all-female production begins performances on May 24 and is part of the global 400th anniversary celebration of William Shakespeare's life and death. The free production will officially open on Tuesday, June 14 and run through Sunday, June 26.

Favorite guest Frank Langella returns to THEATER TALK to discuss his spellbinding, critically acclaimed performance as André, a man in the early-to-mid-stages of dementia, in the Manhattan Theatre Club production of Florian Zeller's The Father, directed by Doug Hughes. Revealing that he's “never been so frightened of a part…we're all frightened of this; it terrifies; there's no way back from this disease,” he also tells co-hosts Michael Riedel of the New York Post and Susan Haskins that his brother is in the early stages of the disorder.

This Sally (Andrea Goss) is definitely British, definitely a waif and of limited talent, and has her eyes wide open to the hell her generation of revelers is headed toward in a handcart. Her biggest number, Cabaret, is delivered as nearly a de profundis, a wail of a trauma victim.
