Goodman Theatre Artistic Associate and "triple threat" Playwright/Director/Actor Regina Taylor brings her musical Crowns, based on the book by Craig Marberry with photographs by Michael Cunningham, back to the Goodman stage. For her all-new 10th anniversary production, Taylor has engaged community partners and used workshops to explore and deepen the spoken word, dance and music elements in Crowns. Crowns runs now through August 5, 2012 (Opening Night is July 9) in the Goodman's Albert Theatre. Get a first look at the cast on stage in the photos below!

Goodman Theatre Resident Director Chuck Smith announces his cast for the Chicago premiere of Race, David Mamet's 'intellectually salacious' (Chicago Tribune) portrait of prejudice and social injustice within the judicial system (January 14 - February 19, 2012). The ensemble cast includes Patrick Clear (King Lear, The Clean House) as Charles; Marc Grapey (Vigils; Dead Man's Cell Phone at Steppenwolf Theatre Company) as Jack; Geoffrey Owens (Opus at Two River Theater Company, Julius Caesar at Shakespeare Theater Company in Washington, DC) as Henry and Tamberla Perry (In the Next Room or the vibrator play at Victory Gardens Theater, Eclipsed at Northlight Theatre) as Susan. Goodman Theatre Artistic Director RoRobert Falls announced today that he will direct bert Falls The Iceman Cometh, Eugene O'Neill's epic portrait of hope and disillusionment, running April 22 - June 10, 2012 in the Albert Theatre. Falls' major revival features Tony Award-winning stage and screen stars Nathan Lane Nathan Lane as hardware salesman and pipe dreambuster Theodore 'Hickey' Hickman, and Brian Dennehy Brian Dennehy as one-time syndicalist-anarchist Larry Slade. Hailed by The New York Times as a 'ferocious American classic that has lost none of its power,' The Iceman Cometh marked Falls' and Dennehy's first O'Neill collaboration at the Goodman in 1990-a production which featured Dennehy in the role of Hickey.

Goodman Theatre was full of 'Glee' on May 21 at the theater's black tie 'One Enchanted Decade' gala. The Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony-Award nominated Matthew Morrison performed for a sold-out crowd of more than 850 guests as they celebrated the theater's 10th anniversary at its 170 N. Dearborn St. home in the heart of Chicago's Theater District. Co-chaired by Women's Board members Margaret M. Janus and Swati Mehta, the event raised a record $1 million to benefit the Goodman's Education and Community Engagement programs.

Next month, Goodman Theatre will present two free staged readings in the Owen Theatre. The Mecca Tales by Rohina Malik Rohina Malik Rohina Malik (June 13) and American Wee-Pie by Lisa Dillman Lisa Dillman Lisa Dillman (June 20) were both developed as part of the Playwrights Unit, the Goodman's season-long residency program of four local writers who meet once a month to discuss their plays in progress. Playing an essential role in the Goodman's efforts to commission and develop new works of the American theater, the Playwrights Unit also includes playwrights Seth Bockley Seth Bockley Seth Bockley and Laura Jac Laura Jac Laura Jacqmin qmin qmin, and is facilitated by Director of New Play Development Tanya Palmer. Screen and stage heartthrob Matthew Morrison takes a break from his Glee television classroom to headline Goodman Theatre's May 21 Gala to celebrate 'One Enchanted Decade' on Dearborn Street. The Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony-Award nominated 'triple-threat' (LA Times) has captivated audiences of all ages. 'Blessed with a boyish innocence and beautiful voice' (Playbill), Morrison lights up both the stage and small screen with his mesmerizing talent. The black-tie gala event begins with a cocktail reception at the Goodman (170 N. Dearborn), followed by Morrison's performance in the 856-seat Albert Theatre. The festivities continue as guests shuttle to The Fairmont Hotel (200 N. Columbus) for an elegant dinner and dancing to the tunes of the Al Sofia Orchestra. All proceeds benefit the Goodman's Educational and Community Engagement programs.
