BEEHIVE, THE 60s MUSICAL Extends Through 7/3 At FST

The retrospective music celebration of the 60s, Beehive, The 60s Musical (created by Larry Gallagher) will extend for a fifth week at the Keating Theatre, June 29 to July 3, 2010. Music from Petula Clark to Connie Francis and Tina Turner to Janis Joplin, Beehive, The 60s Musical is a hit with Sarasota audiences!

Night Train to Memphis begins March 23, developed at FST by Richard Hopkins, Rebecca Langford and Jim Prosser. Memphis, Tennessee, birthplace of America's greatest music and the careers of Elvis Presley, B.B. King and Johnny Cash.

On the heels of the first and successful Sarasota Improv Festival, FST Improv begins their 7th full season in the Goldstein Cabaret, with another exciting year ahead. Every Tuesday night this winter, FST Improv will take to the stage to bring new and exciting high jinks. Not even the performers know what to expect - until it happens. Comedy is back in action January 26th for the winter season in the Goldstein Cabaret.

In 1960, President Eisenhower signed the Civil Rights Act that established federal investigation of local voter registration polls. In 1961, our country went to war in Vietnam. In 1962, the Berlin Wall was erected. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Throughout these heavy flames of change and adversity, the beat went on. Music rose out of the flames into a lively, catchy, vocal sound that united a nation during turmoil.

Worried about the economy? Global warming? Flying? Prescription Drugs? Healthcare? Identity Theft? Off-shore Drilling? Aging? What George Bush is going to do now? Change and what it really means? You weren't, but you are now? Well, FST Improv is back to lighten your load and put Recess back into Recession! The 6th Season of FST Improv Begins February 3rd in the Goldstein Cabaret. Tickets are priced at an affordable $12! 'Every day when I read the paper (I am one of the remaining 10 in Sarasota) it seems that it is a little smaller and the news is bad,' says Director Rebecca Langford. 'At the same time I see hope everywhere I go. Things are changing and everyone can feel it. What is that change going to be? Well we don't know, but in Improv we have a great time guessing. This winter's show is really about finding the bright side amid all the sky is falling news. We might not be able to solve all these problems, but we can make fun of them. You know there is a reason they say laughter is the best medicine.' Taking what is right in front of them, in the form of audience suggestions, FST Improv creates characters and sketches on the spot. No one - not even the performers themselves - knows what is going to happen next. It is this element of the unknown that makes every Improv show unique - and what makes for some exciting moments onstage. The FST Improv cast is comprised of returning members including Christine Alexander, Andrew Bailes, Tim Beasley, Catey Brennan, Darryl Knapp, Angel Parker, Steve Turrisi, Chris Friday and Jim Prosser on piano.
