Calloway, White et al. Garner '10 MAC Award Noms.; Uggams Honored, McNight Hosts 5/4

The Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs has announced the nominees for the 2010 24th Annual MAC Awards. The ceremony honoring the nominees, will take place on May 4, 2010 at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, and will be hosted by Sharon McNight. Leslie Uggams will be honored for Lifetime Achievement, with Board of Directors Awards being presented to Peter Leavy and playbill.com. The event will begin at 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:00pm. Lennie Watts will direct the evening, with Tracy Stark musical directing.

NICU?S SPOON is pleased to announce their production of Pulitzer Prize winning, Margaret Edison?s W;T, directed by Alvaro Sena. W;T will play a three-week limited engagement at the Spoon Theater (38 West 38th Street, 5th Fl.) Performances begin Wednesday, April 7th and continue through Sunday, April 25th. Opening Night is Wednesday, April 7th(8 p.m.).

Starfighter Onstage, LLC Announces New Productions in Developement

Starfighter Onstage, LLC has announced its new projects in development for 2010. First, it will start developing a new musical adapted from the comic novel VIVA MAX! by Jim Lehrer (NewsHour with Jim Lehrer). VIVA MAX! is a satire about a Mexican general who tries to impress a woman who spurned him, embarking on a quest to cross the border into the United States and recapture the Alamo. Jim Lehrer's novel was the source of a 1969 film comedy in which Peter Ustinov played the general. Fred Landau (who wrote the book for the LLC's LAST STARFIGHTER musical) is writing the book, and is developing the novel-to-stage adaptation of the story with Julie Miller. The composer and lyricist will be announced soon.

Broadway Goes 'Urban' For Urban Stages' Outreach Benefit, 12/13; Features Kitt, Sheik & More

The starry lineup of performers lending their talents to benefit Urban Stages' Outreach Program include Adam Chanler-Berat (Next to Normal), Jenn Colella (High Fidelity), Lilli Cooper (Spring Awakening), Jerry Dixon (Once on this Island), Matt Doyle (Bye Bye Birdie), Emma Hunton (Spring Awakening), Morgan Karr (Spring Awakening), Kacie Sheik (Hair) and Tony Winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal).

Daniel Zaitchik & The Blue Bottle Collection will present a series of concerts for their newest venture, SUMMER OF THE SODA FOUNTAIN GIRLS, at Urban Stages on December 11th and 12th. The band will perform the concerts in advance of recording the CD, expected early next year. The concept is brought to life on stage with video art projections by Alex Koch and direction by Erika Christensen.
