Twelfth Night to Play Cumston Hall October 10-13, then Tour
by Robert Diamond - Sep 29, 2013

William Shakespeare's comic romp of disguise and devotion comes to Theater at Monmouth! Filled with mistaken identities, silly pranks, and romantic entanglements, Twelfth Night will run for one weekend only in Cumston Hall October 10-13 before heading out on the road as part of the theatre's Shakespeare in Maine Communities education tour. Twelfth Night will tour for three weeks to schools and community centers across the state. This production is part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. TAM is one of 40 theatre companies selected from across the country to participate in this initiative.

Theater at Monmouth Presents Gilbert & Sullivan's PATIENCE Tonight
by BWW News Desk - Sep 20, 2013

Theater at Monmouth's 44th season continues with the opening of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera, Patience, or Bunthorne's Bride today, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. The society ladies in the village are mad for aesthetic poets but the poets are in love with Patience, the village milkmaid. The young ladies' military suitors see no point to overblown verses but give it a try to win back the ladies' hearts. Things are touch and go for a while but in the end everyone lands a suitable partner, even if it is only a tulip or lily.

BWW Reviews: THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING at the Theater At Monmouth is a Heartbreaking, 'Magical' Performance
by Scott Moreau - Jul 28, 2013

Shows featuring a solitary performer onstage are a hell of a thing. Playwrights/authors put their thoughts and ideas into a piece that is often biographical, and just as often fictional. The sole performer then must bear their soul onstage, working one on one with a director to inhabit the persona of the character. With no nets, no outside help, this actor or actress then leave themselves emotionally naked onstage with only themselves for help; equally terrifying and fulfilling. Janis Stevens does just that in her performance of THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING at the Theater at Monmouth. A performance that will leave you in awe.

BWW Reviews: OUR TOWN at the Theater At Monmouth; Wilder's Masterpiece Comes To Life
by Scott Moreau - Jul 22, 2013

When Thornton Wilder premiered his new play OUR TOWN in 1938, I would wager that more than one person left the theatre asking why anyone would want to watch the lives of "ordinary" people on stage. Fast forward to present day where millions of people the world over tune in to reality tv shows, following the lives of "ordinary" people. The difference is, that there is nothing "brilliant" about the lives of the so-called stars of reality TV. However, Wilder's OUR TOWN is light years ahead of it's time, and the talented cast of his well-known play bring out it's brilliance at the Theater At Monmouth.
