Eddie Izzard to Replace Spader in RACE on Broadway

The New York Times is reporting that Eddie Izzard will take over for James Spader in RACE beginning on June 21st. This now completes the new cast along with Afton C. Williamson and Dennis Haysbert along with Richard Thomas who will remain with the show.

Williamson, who made her Broadway debut in Joe Turner's Come and Gone, will take over the role of 'Susan' from Kerry Washington, beginning Tuesday, June 15th. Williamson made a striking impression on the creative team when, as understudy, she replaced Kerry Washington the one night Kerry missed a performance, due to a previous obligation to go to the White House as part of the President's national Arts Council.

The critically acclaimed production of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, which this week was nominated for 11 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, will launch a National Tour in the fall of 2011. The tour will feature the work of the production's entire Tony-nominated creative team: director Terry Johnson, choreographer Lynne Page, set designer Tim Shortall, costume designer Matthew Wright, lighting designer Nick Richings, sound designer Jonathan Deans and orchestrator/musical supervisor Jason Carr. RIALTO CHATTER: Richards & Frankel to Tranfer Pacino's MERCHANT to Broadway this Fall?

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that Broadway Producer Jeffrey Richards will be producing a Broadway transfer of The Public's Merchant of Venice, which will play Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte this summer starring Al Pacino. Richards has suffered a mostly disappointing 2010 so far, being the leading force behind this season's All About Me and Enron, both of which only lasted a mere few weeks on Broadway. Richards and his producing partner, Jerry Frankel are, however, also behind the successful Race, which has already recouped on Broadway.
