Totem Pole Playhouse is proud to welcome back to the Playhouse, John Putch, to direct the hilarious Neil Simon comedy, 45 Seconds From Broadway, opening in June 2010. John Putch began his professional career at the age of five, performing in the Totem Pole Playhouse production of Showboat in 1966.

During the first week in May, Signature Theatre offers two free events to the public. On Monday, May 3 from 7 to 8 pm, Michael Baron, Signature Theatre's Associate Director, will give a 'Page to Stage' talk at Arlington Public Library's Shirlington Branch. On Thursday, May 6 from 1 - 2 pm, [title of show] director Matthew Gardiner and cast members Erin Driscoll, James Gardiner, Sam Ludwig and Jenna Sokolowski, will talk about their show in a 'Brown Bag Thursday' Q&A at Signature.

The crocuses, cherry blossoms, and azaleas will be in full bloom, as the nation's capital will be awash in beautiful colors. It's the perfect time to visit and see some great shows in our DC area theatres.

I Hate Hamlet, the hilarious Broadway comedy about the theatre and the difficulty of understanding Shakespeare, opens at Totem Pole Playhouse on June 30 with two gentlemen in two very familiar roles. Matthew Eisenberg, a Washington, DC based actor, plays a young television star, Andrew Rally, who is faced with the challenge of performing Shakespeare's most famous and most challenging role, Hamlet.

Playhouse favorite Paris Peet and newcomer Caren Anton star in this hilarious romantic comedy about Giles St. James, a recluse British mystery writer and Libby Daniels, a punchy New York film producer. Giles' traditional British way of life is upended when Libby discovers his hidden home, aspiring to televise the mystery novels he wrote under a pen name. ?What I love about this play, apart fro the wonderful humor, is that the love story takes place between two folks who are not 20 some things-but more mature folks at a different point in their lives,? says Artistic Director, Ray Ficca. Long time friend of Ficca?s and former Producing Artistic Director, Carl Schurr, was recruited to direct the comedy. ?Bernard Slade has given new meaning to the expression: 'Opposites attract' and not only do they attract in You Say Tomatoes, they explode into a light-hearted and joyous evening of theatre,? says Schurr. Ms. Sokolowski is currently performing the role of Daisey Holiday in You Say Tomatoes, sponsored by The Orchards. She has played many of the great stages in Washington, DC including: The Kennedy Center, Ford's Theatre, The Shakespeare, Round House Theatre, and Signature Theatre, where she received the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Resident Musical in 2007. t was a boisterous crowd that filled the seats of the beautifully restored Warner Theatre where the Greater Washington theater community came together to applaud itself and recognize those artists who achieved greatness during the past theater season. Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company continues its 2008-09 Season with the World Premiere of Antebellum by Robert O?Hara, author of Insurrection: Holding History, and an OBIE Award winner for directing the Off-Broadway hit, In the Continuum. Directed by Chay Yew, the cast features Woolly Mammoth Company Member Jessica Frances Dukes and Jenna Sokolowski.
