Performing one of her latest singles, award-winning singer-songwriter and Broadway veteran Deborah Cox will take the stage alongside Broadway's brightest stars, who will perform original new works created by leading composers in a spectacular concert to benefit a new non-profit, Broadway in South Africa on Monday, October 5th at 7:30pm at Peter Norton Symphony Space.
Fresh from the January 2009 inaugural working-visit to South Africa, the new not-for-profit Broadway in South Africa announces its Second Annual Benefit Concert. This star-studded evening will feature a guest performance by South African hit recording artist and producer Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse. Like the first, this concert will also feature world-premiere songs created by Broadway and New York composers, like Jeff Bowen, performed by Broadway stars like Shoshana Bean and Eden Espinosa. Through the support of honorary chairs and board members, like award-winning singer-songwriter-actress Deborah Cox, this benefit concert will raise awareness of and celebrate the work Broadway in South Africa does to provide artistic and educational opportunities for underprivileged youth. The concert will take place on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. at Peter Norton Symphony Space, located at 2537 Broadway at 95th Street. VIP guests will enjoy pre- and post-concert events.
3 years, 7 notebooks, and 1 song on 'So You Think You Can Dance' later... Katie Thompson returned to the Laurie Beechman theater to sing 'songs from her notebook'. When she's not IN a new musical (Michael John LaChiusa's 'Giant' at The Signature Theater) or WRITING a new musical ('R.R.R.E.D. a Secret Musical' coming soon to the New York Musical Theatre Festival) Katie has spent her 'free' time writing pop songs. The concert decided the fates of those songs... because Katie is MAKING A NEW ALBUM and played through every bitter-sweet love, sexy dull-hate, and tragically funny moment she's had since 'KT LIVE' -or at least as many of them that she could fit in an hour!

The Muny is presenting a very good production of GODSPELL that's buoyed by a talented and energetic cast. Even if you're not a particularly religious person, you'll still find plenty to appreciate in this family-friendly show.
