Honestly, if I wanted to watch three hours of an unsympathetic, indecisive whiner hem and haw over decisions that will affect their entire country, I'd turn on C-SPAN and watch an entire Congress do their best imitation of Shakespeare's infamous Prince of Denmark.

The 2013-2014 line-up of drama includes old classics and contemporary work from European and American playwrights. La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts kicks off its 2013-14 Programs for Young Audiences series with Boxtales Theatre Company's Brer Rabbit & Other Trickster Tales From Around the World. This 60-minute exciting, story-filled adventure is recommended for audiences ages 4 and up. Performances are Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Adaptations are a tricky business. Staying too close to the source material may make the audience wonder why the material was adapted in the first place, and straying too far may seem disrespectful (everyone involved in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, that one's directed at you). But occasionally, an adaptation comes along that has clear reverence towards the original work but is also unafraid to stand on its own. Such is the case with Breaking String Theater's fantastic production of Three, or The Sound of the Great Existential Nothingness, a new and exciting modernization of Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters.

The Village Voice called it, 'Epic, unpredictable and deliriously ironic'. Genesis West's production of this brilliant dark satire will be the Santa Barbara premier. The production will run through November 20, 2010 with performances Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm at Center Stage Theater.
