CHICAGO—Jeff Alexander, President of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association (CSOA), announced today that CSOA Trustee Bruce Clinton and his wife, Martha, along with members of The Clinton Family Fund, pledged $2 million to the CSOA to endow the Principal Timpani position in the Orchestra. The position, held since 2013 by David Herbert, will be known as The Clinton Family Fund Principal Timpani Chair of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Jeff Alexander, who officially assumes duties as President of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association on January 12, 2015, announced today the appointment of Cristina Rocca to the position of Vice President for Artistic Planning, the Richard and Mary L. Gray Chair, effective March 16, 2015. Rocca replaces Martha S. Gilmer, who left the CSOA in September to become Chief Executive Officer of the San Diego Symphony.
Riccardo Muti, Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, returns in January 2015 for several weeks of concerts with the CSO at both Symphony Center and Carnegie Hall. Muti's winter residency begins with performances in Chicago—on January 15, 16 and 17—of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring pianist Yefim Bronfman. The program closes with Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1 (Winter Daydreams), part of the complete cycle of Tchaikovsky symphonies that Muti leads in the current season.
