A six percent increase was marked in the attendance of children and teenagers at Broadway show this summer

The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc. today announced the new fall season, highlighted by big names, up-and-coming talent, classic shows, and new works.

The pair will co-host the 14th annual BROADWAY ON BROADWAY, a free outdoor concert in Times Square on Sunday, September 18 at 11:30am. Performances are expected from All Shook Up, Avenue Q, Beauty and the Beast, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Hairspray, Lennon, The Light in the Piazza, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, The Producers, Rent, Sweet Charity, Sweeney Todd, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Wicked. New shows The Color Purple, Souvenir and In My Life will perform as well.

Broadway is having its best season-to-date, according to The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc., with ticket sales and paid attendance the highest ever for the first 13 weeks of any season.

The past 22 weeks of the Broadway theatre season have been healthier with grosses and attendance than the corresponding weeks of last season

Non-musical plays have more than doubled in attendance since March 21st, and musicals aren't doing too badly either

According to the League of American Theatres and Producers, Broadway ticket sales and attendance have been on a tremendous upswing over the past 20 weeks, marked by a particularly sizzling summer.
