Fairly exploding onto the stage, The Nutty Professor-the new musical based on the classic 1963 film comedy-opened at Nashville's James K. Polk Theatre last night in a vibrantly told and visually stunning production helmed by Jerry Lewis, the man who co-wrote the movie and, at this moment, is probably booking a ticket to Broadway . The story of nerdy Professor Julius Kelp and his transformation into the suave and sophisticated (if boorish) Buddy Love offers plenty of laughs to be certain, but perhaps surprisingly, there's a whole lot of heart to be found in Rupert Holmes' book, set tunefully to a classic Marvin Hamlisch score.

The Broadway at TPAC Special Event began previews on July 24, and officially opens tonight, July 31- running through August 19 in TPAC's James K. Polk Theater. Featuring music by Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line) and a book and lyrics by three-time Tony Award winner Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), "The Nutty Professor" is a musical treat for the whole family, based on the classic 1963 film in which Lewis starred and co-wrote.

In fact, in his answer to our very first query, Jason Sparks (who is a swing in the show's ensemble) actually made me laugh out loud as he painted a picture of a childhood fairly brimming over with adventure and happy memories-not to mention an experience that may have destined him to time spent on an analyst's couch. Actually, though, Jason seems enormously well-adjusted and, it should come as no surprise that everyone seems to love him

The Broadway-bound THE NUTTY PROFESSOR musical, premiering this summer at TPAC in Nashville, will feature the talents of Broadway favorites Mark Jacoby, Marissa McGowan, and previously announced Michael Andrew. American Dance Machine for the 21st Century (ADM21) will present a workshop presentation of four classic musical theater and film dance numbers on Thursday, June 28 at New York City Center, Studio 4 at 6 pm. Each piece has been coached by artists intimately involved in their original productions; numbers from Contact, A Chorus Line, Lovely to Look At and Jerome Robbins' Broadway will be presented. The evening will be directed by Artistic Director Margo Sappington and feature live music with musical direction by Tedd Firth. ADM21 is a new not-for-profit dance company founded by Executive Director Nikki Feirt Atkins, dedicated to creating a living and vibrant archive of classic and current notable musical theater choreography.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival and J&B Productions present the musical Jane Austen'S PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, a musical - a story of 'First Impressions' and second chances - with music, lyrics and book by Lindsay Warren Baker and Amanda Jacobs, directed by Igor Goldin ('YANK!'), and starring, in the title role of Jane Austen, Donna Lynne Champlin ('Sweeney Todd,' 'Billy Elliot').

Inside Broadway (Executive Director, Michael Presser), now in its 27th year, is proud to present Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies, which begins performances in NYC today at P.S. 304X in the Bronx; the opening performance is also being sponsored by NYC Council Member Jimmy Vacca, who will be in attendance at the show.

This spring, Inside Broadway (Executive Director, Michael Presser), now in its 27th year, is proud to present Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies, which will begin performances in New York City on March 1st and run through May 21st. The production will tour over fifty New York City public schools throughout the five boroughs and will be seen by over 20,000 students.
