ASF Announces Silver Season Lineup, Includes 3 Premieres and 3 Encores

Three world premiere productions with settings in Montgomery, Alabama from the 1860s to the 1960s will be among the highlights of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's 25th Anniversary season. The ten-show lineup will also include three encores of ASF's biggest-selling hits ever, as well as a Shakespearian comedy and tragedy-and Tigger, too.

Two-time Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington, alongside co-star Viola Davis, a Tony Award winner and Academy Award nominee herself, opened the first Broadway revival of FENCES last night at the Cort Theatre. The 1987 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play by August Wilson was directed by Kenny Leon. The strictly limited 13-week engagement began previews on April 14. BroadwayWorld was there to capture the starry arrivals as they arrived in the rain for the big night.

This world premiere co-production will be directed by the Alliance's own Susan V. Booth at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival Sept. 24 - Oct. 3 and then at the Alliance Theatre Oct. 20 - Nov. 14.
