Houston Grand Opera Names Finalists for 2015 Concert of Arias

Houston, TX - February 4, 2015: Houston Grand Opera announced today the finalists for the annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias, to be presented in the Cullen Theater at the Wortham Theater Center on Thursday, February 5, at 7 p.m. This year's finalists are:

Marin Alsop to Conduct BSO & Jamie Barton in Mahler's THIRD SYMPHONY, 1/29-31

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) Music Director Marin Alsop and the BSO present Mahler's epic Third Symphony on Thursday, January 29 at 8 p.m. and Friday, January 30 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and Saturday, January 31 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. The vocal soloist for the fourth and fifth movements is American mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton, the 2013 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World winner. The Baltimore Choral Arts Society Women's Chorus and Peabody's Children's Chorus join Marin Alsop, Ms. Barton and the BSO on this program. Please see below for complete program details.

Russell Thomas to Replace Marco Berti in San Francisco Opera's NORMA, 9/14-30

San Francisco Opera today announced a cast change for the Company's current production of Vincenzo Bellini's Norma. American tenor Russell Thomas will sing the role of Pollione for the remaining five performances of the opera on September 14m, 19, 23, 27 and 30, 2014. Mr. Thomas replaces Italian tenor Marco Berti, who has withdrawn from the production for personal reasons.

Jamie Barton to sing Role of Adalgisa For Entire Run of NORMA, Thru 9/23

American mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton, previously announced to sing Adalgisa for five of seven performances in San Francisco Opera's current production of Vincenzo Bellini's Norma, will sing the role for the entire run, including performances on September 19 and 23.

Harris Theater Announces Partnership with Lyric Opera

Lyric Opera of Chicago Announces 60th Anniversary Season, Featuring Lang Lang and Renee Fleming

Lyric Opera of Chicago announced its 2014-2015 season today, which is set to include eight operas, a world premiere new opera, a one night only piano concert with internationally acclaimed pianist Lang Lang, and special family performances. Lyric's 2014-15 subscription season will offer 68 performances of eight different operas Saturday, September 27, 2014 through Sunday, March 15 , 2015. Lyric will also present 17 performances of a new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel in April 2015, continuing the company's American Musical Theater Initiative.

TSO Announces 2014-15 Season

Earlier today, TSO Music Director Peter Oundjian announced the 2014/2015 season of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO), the Orchestra's 93rd season. The 2014/2015 season also marks the beginning of the Maestro's second decade on the podium with the TSO.

Houston Grand Opera to Launch 2014 With Three World Premieres, American Premiere and More

The opening months of 2014 bring into focus the strengths of Houston Grand Opera (HGO), which launches the new year with an extraordinary line-up. This comprises the world premieres of three important new commissions -Ricky Ian Gordon's A Coffin in Egypt, named one of the twelve "must-see opera events of the season" (Opera News), and two works exploring Houston's Vietnamese and Indian communities, courtesy of HGO's award-winning Song of Houston project; the hotly anticipated American premiere of Mieczyslaw Weinberg's long-suppressed Holocaust opera, The Passenger, in the production that took Europe by storm; the first American presentation of a visionary and groundbreaking treatment of Das Rheingold by Catalan's La Fura dels Baus; a new HGO production of Carmen from Broadway sensation Rob Ashford; a revival of Rigoletto; and a restaged production of Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music, which boasts designs by fashion icon Isaac Mizrahi. Pace University to Present VOCE AT PACE, Featuring Paul Appleby, 1/26

Emerging operatic powerhouse Paul Appleby, one of this generation's most incredible new tenors, will take the stage at the Michael Schimmel Center For the Arts on Sunday, January 26th as part of Pace's concert series VOCE AT PACE: RISING OPERA STARS. Mr. Appleby is a recent graduate of the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, and has already won myriad prizes for his voice, including the the 2012 Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Performing and Visual Arts.

Carnegie Hall to Celebrate Marilyn Horne's 80th Birthday with All-Star Performance, 1/16

Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute presents The Song Continues, an annual series led by renowned mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne, designed to explore the song repertoire through workshops and concerts with the goal of encouraging, supporting, and preserving the art of the vocal recital. This year also marks Ms. Horne's 80th birthday and in celebration, The Song Continues series concludes with a recital honoring Ms. Horne and featuring an all-star line-up of special guest artists on Thursday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall.
