Metropolitan Playhouse, Obie Award winner for exploring American culture through theater, hosts The TranscendentalFest, the theater's tenth Living Literature Festival inspired by the lives and works of American writers. Performances take place daily from January 11 to 24, 2016 at the Metropolitan Playhouse. The opening reception will be held January 11 at 9:00 pm.

Woodie King Jr.'s New Federal Theatre, in association with Castillo Theatre, will revive Martin Duberman's 'In White America,' one of the signature plays of the Civil Rights Era, in a Off-Broadway production October 15 to November 15 at Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street. The famed documentary play traces the American quest for racial equality from the earliest days of the republic to the Little Rock crisis of 1957, with dialogue drawn from historical letters, speeches, journals, songs and other personal accounts including recordings of former slaves. Charles Maryan directs an ensemble of seven which includes actor-turned-newscaster-turned-actor Art McFarland.
THE RIVER opened last night, Nov. 16, at Circle in the Square (50th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue). A new play by Jez Butterworth, The River stars Hugh Jackman, Laura Donnelly andCush Jumbo and is directed by Ian Rickson. The production will play a strictly limited 13-week engagement through Sunday, January 25, 2015. The Irish Repertory Theatre presents Meet Me At The Square, a special benefit concert that celebrates the institution's magical musical highlights from the past 26 seasons. The concert will be held tonight, September 4th at 7:30 pm at The Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street). Meet Me At The Square will be the final performance in the space before the theatre begins its renovation.
