The American Musicals Project Annual Gala Benefit will present its production of Show Boat on March 22nd.

Casting has been announced for several upcoming productions from the American Musicals Project. How exactly does Curly know the height of an elephant's eye? I don't mean to doubt the intelligence or inquisitiveness of the guy, but if I asked a pre-statehood Oklahoma cowboy how high the corn has grown, the first response I'd expect wouldn't be a comparison to the height of a proboscidea native to Africa and Asia. Perhaps he found a picture book in some public library, or maybe that famous Thomas Edison film of the electrocution of Topsy, the Coney Island elephant, had made its way to a local picture house.

There were actually those who thought Cole Porter, Broadway's fountain of divine wit and sophistication, had run dry by that winter of 1948.  Though his recent offerings like Something For The Boys and Mexican Hayride were far from flops, his kind of thin-plotted musical comedy where the book and the songs often had little more than a passing acquaintance with each other was being overshadowed by the enormous success of Rodgers and Hammerstein's integrated musical dramas.  Even in the lightest of entertainments, the public was becoming more and more enthralled by musicals with strong plots and well-developed characters.

The high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story.

Celebrating their Platinum 70th Anniversary, the beloved Paper Mill Playhouse kick-started their season with a hoot-n-hollerin' production of an American classic: Rodgers and Hammerstein's 'Oklahoma!' Following a rousing Opening Night, stars Brynn O'Malley (Laurey), Megan Sikora (Ado Annie), Adam Monley (Curly), Jonathan Brody (Ali Hakim) and Brian Sears (Will Parker) toasted the occasion by chatting with BroadwayWorld!

Paper Mill Playhouse is proud to announce the opening of the theatre's 70th Season with Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! Created by the team of director, James Brennan, and choreographer, Peggy Hickey, Oklahoma! will run at the Millburn theatre from September 17 through October 19, 2008.
