Sascha Radetsky, a former Soloist at American Ballet Theatre, has been named Director of the ABT/NYU Master's Degree Program in Ballet Pedagogy. Radetsky's appointment, effective immediately, was announced today by ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. The New York University Master of Arts Program in Teaching Dance in the Professions with a concentration in ABT Ballet Pedagogy, established in Fall 2008, emphasizes the study of ballet technique combined with discipline-based inquiries and scholarly research.
Opera Mariposa, a critically acclaimed company for local and emerging artists, is launching its new theatre wing with the Tony Award-winning play Master Class by Terrence McNally. The play, which offers a glimpse into the life and psyche of legendary opera diva Maria Callas, will be presented at Marpole United Church on February 19-28 (Fridays-Sundays). Stephen Adly Guirgis has made a name for himself for creating glimpses inside the worlds of the rougher and edgier parts of town. Places inhabited by junkies, hookers and criminals like those in his shows 'In Arabia We'd All Be Kings' currently at Theater Schmeater and 'The Motherf**ker with the Hat' currently from Washington Ensemble Theatre (yes, we have two Guirgis shows in town right now). But while the characters in both shows are well written and developed and thoroughly engaging, those in 'In Arabia …' seem to be lacking a complete narrative or plot making it more of a character study than a story.

Lunar River in association with Mack Sennett Studios has announced the world premiere of Salome, a radically queer reinvention of the ancient tale, written by Christopher Adams-Cohen and directed by Patrick Kennelly. Salome will run for four weeks only with two preview performances on January 31 and February 4 at 8pm. Opening is set for Friday, February 5 at 8pm. Salome will run through February 28 at The Basement at Mack Sennett Studios.
