Stages Theatre Company Announces 2019-2020 Season

Stages Theatre Company announces its 2019-2020 season, featuring a diverse blend of plays and musicals focusing on friendships, adventures, and discoveries. The Capture the Memories season's nine-show lineup includes four musical productions, four world-premieres, a dance collaboration with Escalate Dance & Theatre Studio, and a Theatre for the Very Young production for families to enjoy.

Cast Announced For Pioneer Theatre Company's LA CAGE AUX FOLLES

A cast list has been announced for Pioneer Theatre Company's Concert Production of La Cage aux Folles, the beloved gender-bending musical comedy and winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical. La Cage aux Folles is the only Broadway musical to win the Tony for Best Revival twice, and is the source material for the hit film The Birdcage. The concert-style production runs just three performances, March 15 and 16, 2019, and is an add-on to PTC's 2018-2019 season.

Jacqueline McKenzie Joins The Cast Of MOSQUITOES

Acclaimed Australian actress Jacqueline McKenzie will play the role of Alice in the upcoming Australian premiere of Mosquitoes by Lucy Kirkwood, directed by STC Resident Director Jessica Arthur. Jacqueline assumes the role previously announced to be played by Anita Hegh, following her withdrawal the production. Jacqueline joins a cast which also features Mandy McElhinney, Jason Chong, Charles Wu and Annie Byron.   

Streaming Service BroadwayHD Gets Plucky In March

BroadwayHD is inviting subscribers this month to run away to the circus, kick-up their heels and dance along with some of the most elite Irish dancers, and enjoy some of their favorite moments from the cannon of Oscar Wilde! In March, BroadwayHD, the premier streaming service for live theater, will be adding a number of standout performances to their service including the West End production of family favorite Hetty Feather directed by the Olivier award-nominated Sally Cookson.  March will also mark a celebration of the legendary Irish playwright Oscar Wilde with four of his plays filmed from West End performances that made up Classic Spring's Oscar Wilde Season. Finally, BroadwayHD's line-up will be rounded out with a special St. Patrick's Day playlist debuting on March 13th featuring some of the most exciting Riverdance performances from around the globe.

Three Local High School Students Receive Awards at Young Playwrights Competition

Ten very talented students will be honored at THE THEATER PROJECT'S seventeenth annual Young Playwrights Competition Performance and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, March 9, at the Cranford Community Center. These young writers represent eight different high schools and ten different towns. The three prize winners will see their work performed by the professional actors of The Theater Project; honorable mentions will be presented with citations and gift certificates. The event, which is free and open to the public, has been proudly supported by grants from New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Investors Foundation and the New Jersey Theatre Alliance.

5th Wall Theatre and TheatreLAB Team Up For The Women's Theatre Festival 2019

5th Wall Theatre and TheatreLAB are teaming up again to co-produce the Women's Theatre Festival beginning March 27, 2019. With the increased focus on Women's Rights, the Equal Rights Amendment, and the #MeToo movement, the Artistic Directors of 5th Wall Theatre and TheatreLAB, Carol Piersol and Deejay Gray, have created this festival to celebrate, champion, and advance women's rights, women's stories, and the work of female theatre artists in Richmond.

Eve Ensler Hosts Evening Featuring Evan Rachel Wood and More

On Tuesday, February 26, Eve Ensler, Tony award wining playwright and founder of V-Day and One Billion Rising, hosts an evening featuring best-selling author Naomi Klein; Westworld actor and domestic violence survivor/advocate Evan Rachel Wood; mother of Korryn Gaines, a young mother shot and killed by Baltimore Police Rhanda Dormeus; nationally recognized speaker Rev. Jacqueline J. Lewis, Ph.D.; musicians, activists, and the renowned Jerriese Johnson Gospel Choir of Middle Church on Tuesday, February 26 at 7 pm at Middle Collegiate Church (112 Second Ave, near E. 7th Street) in New York City. On the eve of Women's History Month, poets, composers and scholars celebrate all women and the intersectional issues they are addressing.

GAY BOY Plays The Kraine Theater

GAY BOY is the provocative account of some sort of gay man living some sort of life as an English Teacher in South Korea. His best friend Stella has been cheating on her girlfriend, behavior Gay Boy detests, but this doesn't prevent him from sleeping with as many men as possible. On the surface, Gay Boy may seem like a 'typical' gay boy: highly sexed, sassy, and reveling in both. But when his vulnerability surfaces after a one-night stand, truths about his past are finally revealed.

Soprano Christine Goerke Headlines WNO Gala

Washington National Opera (WNO) announces initial casting for its 2019 WNO Gala, celebrating local entrepreneur John J. Pohanka for his outstanding contributions to the organization. The Gala concert on Saturday, May 18, 2019, in the Kennedy Center Opera House features Evan Rogister leading theWNO Orchestra and an array of musical stars in his inaugural performance as WNO's Principal Conductor. Headlining the concert is renowned American soprano and Grammy® Award-winner Christine Goerke, joined by Washingtonian bassSoloman Howard. In demand by major opera houses around the world including Metropolitan Opera and Royal Opera House Covent Garden, WNO audiences will remember Goerke's heroic feat of stepping in last minute to take over the role of Brunnhilde during the company's first ever complete Ring Cycle in 2016. Howard, a former Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist, is the recipient of the 2019 Marian Anderson Vocal Award and most recently performed in Aida at The Met and Don Carlo with LA Opera.

Additional Playwrights Join Power Plays Initiative At Arena Stage

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces three additional commissioned playwrights as a part of Power Plays, an ambitious initiative commissioning and developing 25 new plays and musicals from a diverse mix of writers, composers and lyricists over the course of 10 years. Playwrights Kia Corthron, Idris Goodwin and Octavio Solis join previously commissioned playwrights with projects underway, including Aaron Posner, whose Power Play JQA, an inquisitive and provocative look at America's sixth president, enjoys its world premiere in Arena's Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle March 1 through April 14, 2019.

Andre Raphel To Conduct The Detroit Symphony Orchestra In 41st Annual Classical Roots Concert

André Raphel conducts the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on March 8 and 9, 2019 in its annual Classical Roots Concert taking place in Orchestra Hall.  The Saturday, March 9 performance will be a gala concert and a live webcast.  This year's tribute honors  George Walker,  the esteemed composer, pianist and educator who was the first African American to win a Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1996 for Lilacs, and who passed away this past August at age 96.  Composer Robert A. Harris will be a special Classical Roots Honoree.   It will be the 41st year that the DSO has presented Classical Roots, honoring the achievements of African American composers.
