The highly anticipated Los Angeles return of Disney's NEWSIES begins performances next week on Tuesday, August 30 at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre for a one-week engagement through Sunday, September 4. Disney Theatrical Productions and the Nederlander Organization are announcing that a day-of-performance DIGITAL lottery for a limited number of $20 orchestra seats will be held daily.

Disney Theatrical Productions and Fathom Events announced today that the Tony® Award-winning musical NEWSIES will make its worldwide cinema debut in early 2017, starring Jeremy Jordan, reprising his Tony Award-nominated performance as 'Jack Kelly.'

Now IS the time to seize the day! BroadwayWorld has learned that Disney will film NEWSIES this August, at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. Returning for the filming will be original Broadway cast members Jeremy Jordan and Kara Lindsay. The production, currently on tour plays the Pantages from Aug. 30, 2016 - Sept. 4, 2016. There is no word yet if the production is headed towards the big or small screen, or who else might be joining or re-joining the cast for the filming.

Broadway In Chicago has announced that THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL, THE BOOK OF MORMON, Disney's NEWSIES and SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE! will make 1776 half-price tickets available through the League of Chicago Theatres' Hot Tix program Tuesday, June 28 beginning at 12 PM through Sunday, July 10. 

The touring cast of Newsies will perform the song 'Santa Fe' live from Santa Fe, NM on Monday, June 20. The event will be streamed to Disney's Facebook page beginning at 1 PM EST and will last approximately 20 minutes, according to Variety.

Everything about the national tour of Disney's NEWSIES, playing this week at the Capitol Theatre (with a rare return engagement scheduled for August due to high demand), is mesmerizing. With a rousing score, striking stage pictures, fluid movement, sympathetic characters, and athletic dancing, there is always something to excite.

Casting has been announced for the Vancouver engagement of Disney's NEWSIES.   The Tony Award-winning production will begin performances at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Tuesday, July 5 for a limited engagement through Sunday, July 10. 

Paula Abdul attended a performance of Disney's Newsies at The Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa on Saturday, May 28.  Abdul manages cast member Michael Dameski (to her right), winner of "So You Think You Can Dance" Australia in 2014.

Now after more than a year, NEWSIES' North American First National Tour is nearing its conclusion, finally stopping at Orange County's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through May 29 (the musical will motor down to San Diego the following week). After seeing the original Broadway production in NYC and then seeing its Los Angeles debut at the Pantages Theatre last year, experiencing this exuberant, high-energy, smile-inducing crowd-pleaser again here in my own home turf felt like a special gift. NEWSIES is a fun, uplifting night at the theater... and continues to be in subsequent, multiple viewings. With its winning combination of incredibly acrobatic dancing, family-friendly comedy, engaging story, awesome singing, and dazzling showmanship, there is a lot to love with this show---whether you're 5 or 95. Heck, it certainly made a #Fansie out of me.

Now here's one headline you WON'T want to miss! As Disney's NEWSIES continues to carry the banner on its National Tour, cast member Nico DeJesus (Romeo) is seizing the day by offering a unique opportunity for dancers and musical theatre performers during the cast's Southern California stop.

I will admit to the fact that the original 1992 film of "Newsies" is one of my guilty pleasures. So when I heard they were making a stage version of the musical I was dubious but excited. The original already made you overlook much of the schlock, cheese, historical inaccuracies and plot holes. But the stage version, currently at the Paramount Theatre, with its retooled story forces even more of a willing suspension of disbelief almost to the point of brain death. But if you can manage that level of tucking rational thought into some dark corner then you're bound to have a good time as this spectacle is loaded with tons of vibrancy and a bevy of cute "boys" who sure do sing and dance pretty.
