That's right, it's the month we want. It's MAYYYYYY!!!! And we sprung into a spring with our All Open Mic celebration. Once a month we shine the spotlight on up and comers with songs and their hearts, and boy did they bring their A-GAME. The night featured rising star Larry Whitfield and returning starlets including Melissa Modifer, Julia Nightingale, JR Bruno and Brazilian ingenue Carol Baptista. Cast members from A Bronx Tale boogied on down to Broadway Sessions on a recent Thursday night. Stars Ariana DeBose, Bradley Gibson, Christiani Pitts and Kirstin Tucker gave us some insight into the kind of talent that keeps the box office burning up over on Belmont Avenue. Cast members tested their Alan Menken musical knowledge and even got our audience up and dancing Bronx Tale-style. North Carolina Theatre presents Monty Python's Spamalot, the first show of their 2016/17 Season. Leading the quest as 'King Arthur' is Jeff McCarthy (Broadway: Side Show, Chicago, Urinetown, Beauty and the Beast). James Ludwig (Broadway: Spamalot, Little Shop of Horrors) will star as 'Sir Robin', and the show will also feature Ta'Rea Campbell as 'The Lady of the Lake' (Broadway: Book of Mormon, Little Shop of Horrors Tour: Sister Act). Broadway Barre, a monthly event hosted by Kate Pazakis (South Pacific, South Park), happened last night, October 22. This month's special guests were Euan Morton (Taboo), Audra Mae (Recording Artist), Jimmy Ray Bennet (Nuclear Family), Todd Buonopane (30 Rock, Grease), and from the Book of Mormon National Tour: Michael Buchanan (The Addams Family, Cry Baby), Marisha Wallace (Rent, Sistas!), JR Bruno (West Side Story), Daniel Le Claire (Hairspray), and Samantha Marie Ware (The Lion King, Rent). The West Coast Premiere of THE BOOK OF MORMON, winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, officially opened September 12 at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. Broadway World TV's Los Angeles Correspondent and Co-Producer Michael Sterling and Co-Producer Jerry Evans of JLE Media, Inc. were on hand for the red carpet festivities which included such celebrities as Jason Alexander, Rosanna Arquette, Simon Baker, Eric Balfour, Justin Bartha, Beth Behrs, Juie Bowen, Cher, Don Cheadle, Viola Davis, Heather Graham, Laura Dern, Jonathan Groff, Daryl Hannah, Kathy Griffin, Marica Gay Harden, John Hawkes, Lisa Kudrow, Diane Ladd, Tobey Maquire, Bill Maher, Garry Marshall, Julia Ormand, Dermot Mulroney, Carl Reiner, Parker Posey, Jane Seymour, and Alicia Silverstone. Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone were also in attendance. The much anticipated run of THE BOOK OF MORMON will continue through November 25, 2012.
