Our special series for Women's History Month continues with a profile of Irish Rep's artistic director and cofounder.

Through staged readings, song, dance, panel discussions, and films, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts will mark the centennial of the death of famed Irish playwright and poet J. M Synge and examine his 1904 tragedy Riders to the Sea. 'On an Anniversary': J.M. Synge, 1871 - 1909 is a free series of five programs that explore the importance and influence of this writer and co-founder of the Abbey Theatre.

The Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street) in association with Glucksman Ireland House, The American Irish Historical Society, and The WB Yeats Society of New York will begin previews of The Yeats Project on Wednesday, April 8, 2009. The production will open on Wednesday, April 15. Charlotte Moore, Artistic Director and Ciar?n O'Reilly, Producing Director will direct.

The Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street) is hosting a NEW WORKS READING SERIES to support new plays and emerging playwrights. As part of its mission statement, The Irish Repertory Theatre 'encourages the development of new works focusing on the Irish and Irish American experience, as well as a range of other cultures.' The next of the free staged readings is Rosemary by Jim O'Connor. The reading is on Friday, February 27th at 3 PM, tickets are free, and the event is open to the public. The Irish Repertory Theatre has announced that it will extend it's highly successful run of Brian Friel's ARISTOCRATS until March 29, 2009. The production is directed by Charlotte Moore. Aristocrats. One of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Irish theater, master storyteller, Brian Friel is at the top of his form with this touching story of a once powerful and aristocratic family in its days of decline.

The Clockwork Theatre is pleased to announce the cast for their upcoming production of CHERRY SMOKE by JAMES McMANUS (winner of the 2006 Princess Grace Playwriting Award), directed by JADE KING CARROLL. The title role of Cherry will be portrayed by MARIANNA McCLELLAN, with JAY ROHLOFF playing opposite her in the role of Fish. Mr. Rohloff, who serves as Clockwork's Artistic Director, was most recently seen in the company's revival of Caryl Churchill's A Number at Theatre Row in September, 2008, for which he received praise for portraying a man and two very unique clones of that man.
